  1. IIRC Nox thinks he's kind of a charlatan, which maybe he is. He definitely doesn't advance knowledge like some of the more mathy types, but I still enjoy most of his articles. He's a decent writer and creates interesting content, but not groundbreaking content. I think Nox is of the opinion that he tries to insert himself in conversations with the types who post on Tango's blog, but that isn't really the nature of his contributions. That's what fangraphs is now, for the most part. Interesting content, but not groundbreaking, and for the most part, not quality research.
  2. Yeah, Nox dislikes him, but I don't think people like Nox are really his intended audience.
  3. Cameron gets a bad rap. His articles are generally pretty good. He's not a statistician like Tango or Bill James, but he's a pretty great baseball blogger IMO.
  4. Yeah, I'm well aware of all this and think it should be torn down. But as you say, it won't be.
  5. I think it's pretty clear that an upgrade is needed somehwere, and if they can get it, I likely ship Buehrle out if possible, and buy out Morrow. Dream scenario: Lester/Shields Dickey Stroman Hutchison Happ/Norris/Nolin/Sanchez There's no way I keep Morrow at this point.
  6. Maybe everyone interested has already discussed him with Tex to the point where they know there's no deal to be had.
  7. It's a tough situation in that the team will really miss the 2-3 wins Dickey and Buehrle provide if they move one. The salary is expensive, especially in Buehrle's case, but for the price you get pretty bankable production, and I don't think you get much back via trade. Re-investing the money and getting more than 2-3 wins in return will not be easy.
  8. That rotation would likley be one of the worst in baseball. Not that Buehrle really helps much, but that is not a good group.
  9. Nori Aoki would be awesome for LF at like 3/20. Rajai Davis and Chris Denorfia are potentially useful. Why the hell wasn't Davis retained in the first place?
  10. $120 M would be an absolute death sentence. I'm expecting something in the $135-145 M range. Which probably still isn't enough for this group. Either way, I'm expecting $10-12 million to be spent on two free agent relievers.
  11. Holy f*** I love being in the Monte Cristo.
  12. I think I'm in the minority in that I really don't want Reimold back. League-average-ish bat with no evidence of platoon split, only plays LF, doesn't play it well, no baserunning value. Meh. The OF could really use another capable CF defender, preferably one that hits from the right side and can do it reasonably well.
  13. I think he'd but up some gaudy defensive numbers in LF. Plus plus defense + average bat = pretty good player.
  14. Rasmus at like $5-6 million would be amazing. You could use him in LF, in a platoon, or as a 4th OF. He has a useful MLB skillset, and somebody is going to extract value from it.
  15. I wonder how good a defender Lawrie is a 2B. Valencia/Francisco at 3B, Reyes at SS, Lind/Edwin at 1B, and Navarro at C is abysmal.
  16. Francisco is a nice fit for the roster as currently constructed IMO. If his arb salary is ~$3 million, that's decent value. He's a very good bench bat, can play first and isn't terrible at third. Insurance at DH for when Lind goes down etc... I think there will probably be a place for him. Really not keen on paying market value for Melky. I'd rather target a LF with a more under-valued skill set (defense). Melky is a complete butcher.
  17. The only option I'd pick up is Lind. As for the arb guys, I could see Reimold, Valencia, and Kawasaki potentially tendered depending on how things go. Anyone know the option situation on the three?
  18. We don't have one yet.
  19. Gose in CF, and get a 4th OF who can play CF and preferably hit RH so Gose doesn't have to hit the toughest lefties. Craig Gentry's skill set would be perfect.
  20. I don't see any chance he's QO'd unless he hots like 15 homeruns ROS. $15 million is a huge chunk of available payroll space this offseason.
  21. Non-tender deadline is going to be VERY interesting this year.
  22. This thread was fun last year, so let’s do it again. I tried to keep the projected roster at guys who earned a place this year and are likely to make next year’s team. IMO the only virtual locks to not be non-tendered are Lawrie, Francisco, and Hutchison. C – Martin (7) 1B – Encarnacion (10) 2B – Travis (nm) 3B – Donaldson (arb1 proj. 4.5) SS – Reyes (22) RF – Bautista (14) CF – Pompey (nm) LF – Pillar (nm) DH – Navarro (5) 2B/3B – Maicer Izturis (3) 3B - Valencia (arb1 proj. 1.7) C - Thole (1.75) SP – Dickey (12) SP – Buehrle (19) SP – Romero (7.5) SP - Happ (6.7) SP – Hutchison (nm) SP – Stroman (nm) RP - Estrada (arb3 proj. 4.7) RP – Brett Cecil (arb2 proj. 2.6) RP – Aaron Loup (nm) RP – Todd Redmond (nm) RP - Liam Hendriks (nm) $122.95
  23. I haven't commented about the magnitude of his defensive decline. What I've said is that his base-running has seen a very sharp decline, and given that he plays CF, it wouldn't exactly be shocking if his defense were also impacted to a significant degree.
