Tim Thomas is the R. A. Dickey of hockey
  5. Wow Garza has been a terrible pick up for Texas 6 runs in 5IP tonight, another in a string of bad starts
  6. My brain hurts from trying to decide Do I have any other choices???
  7. I do wish our utility IF was speedier though
  8. Yeah, I was fececiously exaggerating.
  9. If AA thinking that helps prevent him from trading Stroman and Sanchez, so be it...
  10. You'd need 2 pinch runners on the bench to deal with a Lind/Konerko platoon
  11. They don't get much more "Vetrin" than Konerko #CitoBall

  16. I love that he's so badass and cool that that it doesnt seem wussy, ridiculous or self-aggrandizing for him to tweet about it
  17. Man, I can't wait to see his major league debut
  18. 1 garbage thread per day on new board >>> 20 per day on old board
  19. Didn't Edwin play 1B about 70% of the time?
  20. If Morrow and McGowan could just split their DL time, each on the DL at opposite times, we could potentially have one good full time starter between them for 9.5M
  21. Sure, Buerhle is absolutely needed due to his reliability, I just liked him more at 13M than 18M. Izturis is a good utility IF but 3M is too much for that role Melky I hope can provide 8M in value as part time LF/DH next year. I wouldn't bet against a bounce back 2-3 WAR season. I'd much rather have Mathis than Thole for the same money. I'm sure AA wishes he hadn't had to trade him. McGowan? Too interesting to not want to see what he could do next year. I'd gamble 1.5M on him after what we saw this past month. Romero and Happ pretty much guaranteed write off $
  22. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130916&content_id=60757022&vkey=news_tor&c_id=tor Melky Cabrera seemed to be a player on the decline this season, but do you think the tumour that was removed from his back can help explain why he looked so bad? Or do you think his best years are now behind him? -- Adam D., Barrie, Ontario The Blue Jays spent almost this entire season trying to figure out what was wrong with Cabrera. He arrived at Spring Training in good shape, was moving well and appeared set to have a successful season after signing a two-year, $16 million contract during the offseason. But the problems began almost immediately, as Cabrera began the season with a lack of mobility on the basepaths and in left field. Some struggles at the plate would have been understandable, but it was incredibly bizarre to see someone at just 29 years old moving around with so much difficulty. Toronto examined both of Cabrera's legs on multiple occasions but couldn't find a cause. It wasn't until the former All-Star admitted to having back pain that the organization found the benign tumour and was able to have it removed without any complications in early September. The presence of a tumour can never be considered a positive thing, but at least now the Blue Jays have something concrete to point to as being a main reason behind his lack of mobility. The location of the tumor inside of Cabrera's spine created a lot of pressure and ultimately sent waves of pains through his legs. That should now be a thing of the past, and the Blue Jays can realistically hope for a bounce-back season in 2014. There are no guarantees it will happen, but Cabrera is expected to make a full recovery prior to Spring Training, and considering he is set to earn $8 million next season, he will be given every opportunity to win regular playing time. Do you expect the Blue Jays to pick up Adam Lind's option for next season? Or will they look elsewhere for help in the middle of the order? -- Justin R., Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island Lind's chances of being back next year seemed remote a couple of months ago, but that has changed in recent weeks. The main reason is that the Blue Jays found the cause behind Cabrera's issues this season, which has opened up another spot in the lineup. The line of thinking back in July was that Cabrera would probably need to shift to designated hitter because of his lack of range in left field. Now that Toronto diagnosed Cabrera's problem, he is once again expected to start in the field, which opens up the DH spot for someone else. It's a position that Lind has been accustomed to for the past few seasons, and there's a realistic shot he could have his $7 million team option picked up for next year. If Toronto did decide to part ways with Lind, it would still cost the club a $2 million buyout, so the difference of $5 million might not be that expensive for a player who just surpassed the 20-homer plateau, while maintaining an average above .270 for most of the year.
  23. BNS and Chisolm quotes on MLBTR. Bolded a part I hadn't heard before. - Adam Lind is hopeful that the Blue Jays will exercise his $7MM option "sooner rather than later" and hopes the conversation will be conducted face-to-face with GM Alex Anthopoulos, Lind tells Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet. Lind is confident that even if his option is declined and he becomes a free agent, he will be able to find other employment. In that instance, he would hope to join a contending team, though he made it clear to Nicholson-Smith that his preference is to help bring a winning team to Toronto. Lind's future with the team looks more certain than it did in July, writes MLB.com's Gregor Chisholm in his latest Blue Jays Inbox. Before the team discovered a tumor on Melky Cabrera's spine, they were planning to move Cabrera to DH in 2014. The tumor explains Cabrera's limited mobility and drastic decline, however, meaning Cabrera can still play in the outfield while Lind serves as the DH. Lind's option contains a $2MM buyout, so the Jays essentially have a $5MM decision on whether or not to retain him. Chisholm also discusses Colby Rasmus' case for an extension but notes that Rasmus' 2013 season compares favorably to B.J. Upton's walk year prior to signing a five-year, $75.25MM contract with the Braves. As such, Anthopoulos is likely to make sure that Rasmus can repeat his breakout season before looking seriously at adding him to Toronto's core.
  24. So much waste all of a sudden for a team that had "no bad contracts" just 12 months ago Romero, Happ, Buerhle goddamit. And f***, if Morrow doesn't pitch 100 innings or more in 2014 there's another 4M plus down the crapper.
