  1. Best one yet by far (imo)!
  2. It seemed like Gibbons didn't have time to get enough words out to say anything about the balls/strikes.
  3. I have to admit, I'm starting to lean more that way too. If the only thing the ump was shouting at him was about calling a violation on the equipment, then he probably deserved it. If he was barking about something else, then no. No way should Gibbons have been tossed so fast though.
  4. As I said, the ump was barking at Lawrie as he walked up the 3rd baseline (with his mouth shut), and then was tossed when he lobbed his gloves back towards the plate in response to whatever the ump said. Bad choice by Lawrie, but there's a few umps in the league that need to learn that the game is about the players, not them.
  5. That last replay showed it a little better. Ump started barking at Lawrie as he walked away towards third, and Lawrie tossed the gloves behind his back towards the ump, which is when he was tossed. Lawrie shouldn't have done that, but umps need to be way less confrontational.
  6. Then he tosses Gibbons before he could say more than 2 words. MLB seriously needs to do something about the umps.
  7. Maybe this is just one of those days where whoever is out there is gonna give them up... O's are hitting everything.
  8. The O's started someone yesterday who had 46 innings at double A. I think Cingrani only had about 90. Fernandez only had about 55 innings in advanced A before the Marlins brought him up (they've done the same with some hitters too). I agree with others that we should have just started Ortiz, but let's not pretend that moving guys up fast is only done by us.
  9. Throwing strikes, for the most part hitting his spots, about 92ish. O's hit some very good pitches. Needs to get down in the zone a few more inches, but it's not like the balls were belt high or anything.
  10. That's the first bad at-bat by Lind that I can remember in about a month.
  11. I think I spotted a 94 there by Cecil. Who here ever thought we'd see THAT again?
  12. In fairness, he had control of the ball for a step or two when he hit the wall. Idiot fan, but if you try to sell the ball like that and get away with it you probably deserve something.
  13. I actually like the suicide squeeze call there. Little bit of bad luck that the pitch was up and in (and Gausman didn't intend for it to be). Then the babip gods strike us again ...
  14. 2nd time through the order. Let's see if the batters learned anything.
  15. I really love how the Jays simplified Morrow's delivery.
  16. I'd expect to see much better swings the second time through the order.
  17. It really is odd. Against power pitchers this year, we have an .831 ops.
  18. There's really nothing to go on with this guy - he's thrown a grand total of 60 innings. The only thing that jumps out is the control. My feeling is that he'll be staying outside corner to the batters today, so if we look opposite field we'll probably do well. If we try to pull everything it's going to be a long night. Last year lefties hit him fairly well, this year there isn't much of a split difference. Regardless, it's far too small a sample size.
  19. I'm not sure I agree with this. I know what you're saying, and with truly random data (flipping a coin or rolling dice) you would be absolutely correct. Getting 99 heads in a row has absolutely no bearing on the probability of getting it again on the 100th try. I would question if this data is really random though, as streaks (especially over several games) for many hitters seem to be largely dependent on their confidence and timing at the plate. In some ways, I think you could consider this "rolling with slightly weighted dice". Would make for an interesting study. I'm not saying that the decision to pitch to Bautista in this case wasn't correct, as I think it was. The increased chance of the Jays winning from an EE walk probably outweighs whatever advantage Jose may have had (if it does in fact exist). I'm also going to throw out the "3 guys in a row" walk portion of the original statement for obvious reasons, although in some ways it is the pitcher equivalent.
