  1. Not only that, but national rights (which hopefully ends this blackout bs)
  2. Steamer is also projecting him to start 146 games next year... Dump him down to a more reasonable 120 and you probably get about 2.4 WAR projection. Without calculating the exact amount, it looks like Steamer is projecting Salty and JPA to be roughly equal defensively per game, but Salty to be slightly better with the bat (but still below average).
  3. I'm a bit surprised that Tim Wheeler cleared waivers. Seems like he'd be a good option for some team as a cheap 4th outfielder that is still young enough to possibly be fixed.
  4. Yeah, I've got a number of things I'd love to flesh out and submit too, but I'm just too busy atm. Maybe come spring I'll be able to. Sounds like there's quite a few people in the same position.
  5. Can you imagine if he now got in an accident driving in the rough conditions? He'd never live it down. (not that I'd ever wish an accident on someone)
  6. If Rasmus still had 3 years of control left or something, then it might be different. He's a free agent after next season though, and with almost everyone looking for starting pitching it just wouldn't happen. Someone would offer far more than that. In fact, I don't even know if Rasmus would get Phillips (guess it depends on how eager they are to move the salary). Cecil is been suggested quite a bit around here as the likely price for Hanigan. That still leaves Shark, who certainly wouldn't be thrown in as a freebie.
  7. Their "baseball card" numbers should improve. Lind and Cecil wouldn't get us Chacin though. Here's a link to his home/away career numbers: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=chacijh01&year=Career&t=p#hmvis
  8. Well, they did need a backup catcher with Navarro leaving. However with where they're at in a rebuild, Castillo may net them more value towards that rebuild by trading him now. They could always take JPA as part of the return (which is only 1 year different in control anyhow). Like I said, for where they're at, JPA + good prospects may be better than Castillo without. So here's a question. Let's say AA was able to get Samardzija + Castillo + Castro. Would people be upset to lose Sanchez + Stroman ++ in the deal if that was the return?
  9. Rasmus and a reliever aren't going to get us those 3. We'd need to be sending a lot more.
  10. So in other words you're saying there's a handful of GM's that might?
  11. Just ignore him and apply that stylish fix I posted a long time ago (unless you're one of the unlucky ones it doesn't work for). The only time you see them is if someone quotes them to complain about what idiots they are...
  12. Few interesting ones in there. Thanks.
  13. I'm not really interested in this, but you can find out how many are online at http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/online.php . As of writing, there were 109 people currently online (which is pretty awesome), and our peak from earlier in the year had 377.
  14. You're a moderator ... you have the power to make him unannoying for a while
  15. BTW, you could probably also hire someone on one of those sites to build you massive database too, although I suspect you already have a fairly robust one.
  16. You could probably hire someone on Google Helpouts, ODesk, or Mechanical Turk to translate them for a few bucks if you wanted to.
  17. I'd prefer someone like Porcello for the 5th spot, but Halladay would have the advantage of selling lots of season tickets and creating some more buzz around the casuals which is also important. Sign him soon, put him on the Delabar program, and see what happens. I bet in terms of ticket sales he provides huge surplus value, even if he doesn't on the field.
  18. It'll probably end up being someone none of us expected. Maybe Tommy Joseph from the Phillies or something else like that.
  19. C.J. Wilson might be another (too early to tell for sure). Oops, saw you listed him. Deal should turn out okay for them though.
  20. I can't see it being more than that (it really shouldn't be), but you never know. All it takes is one desperate team.
  21. I also think Hughes could be an intriguing option at the back of the rotation, and will likely come very cheap.
  22. I agree, I think Jimenez is the perfect fit for us assuming he doesn't go for some insane amount. He isn't overly efficient, but he's had 6 straight seasons making at least 31 starts, has put up 3.2 WAR or higher in 5 of his last 6 seasons, and an xFIP of 3.71 or lower in 4 of his last 5. Add to that the fact that's he's a ground ball pitcher, and I think it makes perfect sense. Put him and Porcello in the rotation and we'd have 4 guys with a high probability of making 30+ starts and a high upside wildcard in Morrow. I don't understand why so many people dislike the idea of him.
  23. It seems to me that 5 fits fairly nicely with the WAR values we see on Fangraphs (and the contracts that are given out). If other organizations have different replacement levels than what Fangraphs has or uses a different formula, it would make sense that they might have different numbers. Since we don't have those other numbers, I like the idea of using the two that we know are designed to work together. With that said, I'd also be totally on board with all of us crowdsourcing our own WAR formula, replacement level, and numbers and using those.
