  1. I think someone got into the rum and eggnog lol. I'm all for trading Janssen, but we already have an all glove, no bat guy manning second. We don't need to trade for a another.
  2. Sums it up pretty nicely, although I think Choo will be playable in the outfield longer term than 2 years (unless they decided for some reason to plop him in center).
  3. I think he's above average personally, and I think will further improve (until he takes over for Beeston, at which point we will have to break in a new GM all over again).
  4. You have to wonder if some of the bigger market owners see what Oakland and the Rays do by necessity, and get caught up with thinking about all the money they can make (not to mention all they rake in during the low payroll times of the actual rebuild where payroll is less than they get in revenue sharing before selling any tv rights or seats). Then when they see the fan support start to dwindle, they panic and force the GM to win now at all expense. Rinse and repeat.
  5. Yeah, I agree. I really am in favor of trading Rasmus this off-season.
  6. Unless I'm reading it wrong, it doesn't fit with the rest of his statement. I think his phone is screwing up the columns on Fangraphs. edited to say: Never mind, I think I see what he's saying now. Very confusing, but the misunderstanding was on my end.
  7. If you think Lee hasn't had 4 WAR in a season since 2006, either Fangraphs isn't working well on your phone or you're getting the xFIP column confused with the WAR column.
  8. We are talking about Cliff Lee, right? 2008: 7.1 WAR 2009: 6.5 WAR 2010: 7.0 WAR 2011: 6.5 WAR 2012: 4.9 WAR 2013: 5.1 WAR
  9. According to fangraphs, Rasmus is projected at 3.3 WAR next year (on both), and Lee is 3.8 (steamer) and 4.2 (oliver)
  10. No it isn't. Projected injuries, etc are factored in (for the most part). Aging too. Career dips for things outside those areas should on average balance out with other players having career years. We don't need things to fall our way to reach that, we just need way above average bad luck not to happen like it did last year. Things falling our way would be like what happened to the Red Sox last year, or the Orioles the previous year.
  11. I think it's a lot more likely that the Jays would look to get Franklin and Saunders. We have a big need in the OF next off-season, and Saunders would fit that nicely (the fact he's Canadian doesn't hurt either). Franklin / Ackley is obvious, but I get the impression that the Mariners would prefer to hold on to Ackley.
  12. I don't buy that. They're only at like 68M next year plus 3 1st year arbitration guys. The last two years they were 84M, and over 90 for several years before that. They get extra money this year just like everyone else. They won't spend it just for the sake of spending it (especially while in a sort-of rebuild), but you have to believe if they have a Tanaka (or Price) land in their lap for anything that isn't a drastic overpayment, they're going to jump on it.
  13. Reports seem to indicate that Tanaka wants to pitch on the west coast (although I'm sure he wouldn't turn down somewhere else if they made it worth his while). I have to believe Seattle and the Dodgers are the most likely, with the Yankees a wild card.
  14. To kick this off, there's reports (although I have my doubts) that the Yankees might also stand pat on the pitching front. So here's the question: Would you prefer the Yankees rotation (next year) of: C.C., Kuroda, Nova, Pineda, Phelps with Banuelos, Warren, and Nuno in reserve or our rotation of Dickey, Buehrle, Morrow, Happ, Hutch with Drabek, Stroman, Redmond, Rogers, Romero, Nolin in reserve.
  15. Isn't this what the mods are supposed to, er, resolve?
  16. It's a public list, just click on one of the numbers and it'll show you.
  17. Meh, almost everything you see as an astrophysicist happened long before humanity ever existed, so basically you're just a history major in denial
  18. It doesn't necessarily matter what it does to him long term. He can still have tremendous value to us even if he only beats the odds for four or five years.
  19. Like THAT will narrow anything down!
  20. Yeah. Some (probably many) people's IP's are also somewhat dynamic, changing some times every few days when settings are re-negotiated with the service provider.
  21. No, but it does have implications beyond this year, since it resets their penalty. I mean, that's the whole point. But I agree, it doesn't mean they won't give up and dish out a few doozies.
  22. Something tells me Chappy has been getting PM'd by him
  23. Youk signing with Rakuten is actually rather interesting, especially with them paying him up to 5M. I wonder if that means they intend to post Tanaka after all, and this move is to help appease their fans?
  24. This is kind of interesting regarding height (probably been posted before) http://sabr.org/research/does-pitcher-s-height-matter
  25. For the record, the part about the pissing matches and stuff wasn't meant to be referring to NJH.
