  1. Apparently that total is not linear, so they start out only getting about 60 or 70M / year and it gradually increases. Still a big increase over their current deal (although doesn't kick in for another year or two). BTW, these 25 year deals seem like a really really bad idea to me, although at least Philly gets a stake in the revenue above the fixed amount per year.
  2. Cool! You should add a link to the google docs spreadsheet in the BB article also.
  3. I wonder what the other move would be that this would set up, since we'd have 3 1B/DH (unless we moved EE back to 3rd and Lawrie to second, which I hope we don't do).
  4. I don't think we will. I believe we will add one #3 or better starter, but I don't know whether that will come via trade or FA.
  5. Yeah, I noticed that too. Still never hurts to see how others are approaching a problem though, which can often spark other ideas.
  6. I don't think it's so much a 200+ inning guy as guys we can be fairly certain will make the majority of their starts. Morrow is a complete unknown in that regard, as are the depth guys we have.
  7. People might find this kind of interesting http://www.thegiantscove.com/2014-articles/january/major-league-baseball-line-ups-the-mobius-theory.html
  8. Out of curiosity, why did you decide to stack pitching rather than hitting (not that your bats aren't pretty damn good also, just not quite the level of your pitching)
  9. Seems like a strong deal for both sides assuming it fills a need for both. I don't have concerns about Price, but Freeman just had a huge season for a 23 year old.
  10. I don't think he took one he knew wouldn't sign as much as he took one that he felt would have huge upside if he DID sign, with the thought that it didn't really matter if he didn't.
  11. His contract demands were stupid in the first place. If we could get him at around 10M though, he and Melky could split time in the outfield and DH and we could move Lind (maybe Seattle wants another 1B lol). Cruz murders lefties and is playable vs righties, so that would eliminate the platoon partner we still need for Lind.

It's a shame that countries can't qualify two teams considering the depth we have.
  13. In all reality, replacing JJ with Shark and trading for one of Seattle's 2nd baseman probably puts us in exactly the same spot we were in last year before the season started (projection wise), if not a very small amount ahead.
  14. Any team that tries to build a staff with that kind of system deserves to lose. You look to improve your club any way you can. If that means having 5 #3 caliber guys, then so be it. If those 5 guys put up the same WAR as a traditional #1 to #5 staff, you're fine (at least in terms of making the playoffs). It would almost be like a team passing up on Votto in order to get someone like Dunn, Alvarez, or Trumbo because they want the extra home runs in the middle of their order.
  15. I wonder if Happ might be a better comparison for Wood.
  16. I suppose it depends what else you could get for Kinsler's salary and whether you think Liriano will repeat what he managed last year or not (I have my doubts). Still, I have to assume you could turn around and trade Kinsler if you wanted to for more of a return than Norris and Stilson.
  17. I wonder how much it has to do with workload, and how much is due to teams getting several looks at him by the time the second half rolls around. I remember when Marcum was here, by the third or fourth time he faced them in a season they stopped chasing the changeup.
  18. In his career, Buehrle's March/April numbers aren't too good. May and June kind of make up for it and push that first half ERA down a lot. There's so much variance though that I'm not sure it really means much.
  19. I believe it could be as long as a month from the posting date, although I suspect he'll want to get a deal sooner so he has a month or so to move over here before spring training.
  20. It's actually kind of shocking just how well Redmond actually pitched last year, especially for a fly ball pitcher in our division.
  21. Salazar has never thrown more than 111.1 innings in a season. He may be filthy, but he won't be in the rotation for the entire season. I don't know what to make of Kluber. Masterson I like.
  22. I'm not sure any team in baseball has what you seem to consider as depth.
  23. I don't see why not edited to say: I don't think they can tack on something to the contract, but they could replace it with a new one that added the option.
  24. I just don't see Jimenez being quite that bad either (well, maybe ERA if he comes to the AL East). I would probably put Jimenez closer to 4.00/3.6/3.75. Garza seems about right, and Santana is reasonable unless that new pitch he's working on changes things. It will be an interesting proof of concept to see how your projections fare.
  25. The only thing that bothers me is the way spring training was apparently run last year, and I suspect that's going to change this year.
