  1. We seriously need to get Gose a batting helmet that actually fits him.
  2. More like monthly, and the announcers daily lol
  3. Wily Peralta with 9 k's in 4 innings, only 63 pitches.
  4. We should start calling those slides by Pillar the "safeplant".
  5. Yeah, I agree. I really think we need to develop our own pitchers, and pay for hitters. Getting any FA pitchers to come here is going to be a nightmare.
  6. Getting back to the spirit of the thread, I'll throw a crazy one out there. I wonder how much the Yankees would be willing to eat of A-Rod's contract to get rid of him? If they were to cover, say, half his contract, plus the bonuses if he reaches them, and take back Romero and Izzy (which would free up money next year for us)... They'd get Izzy plus save about 23M and the headaches, and we can plop him at 3rd and move Lawrie to 2nd. He probably earns roughly the 10M / year we'd be paying.
  7. AA knows baseball just fine for the position of president. Half of it is liaising with the ownership anyway from what I understand, with the other half coordinating everything that isn't related specifically to players. It's far less critical than it is for the GM who actually signs the players, and having someone as President who was actually a GM can only be an advantage.
  8. Maybe the best approach is to have Beeston retire, and move AA up to President. That may be a better fit for him anyway. Then pay a bunch to lure a proven great GM away from someone
  9. Actually I wasn't thinking straight. He's worth more than the option, so it'll be picked up regardless. The question is whether he'll still be on the team or traded.
  10. I really have no idea what they'll do in terms of payroll range. If the tv ratings really are much stronger this year, I would expect they would want to keep the trend going and at the very least not DROP the payroll. Lind might be an interesting case to help us determine the direction.
  11. Maybe we should roll with 2 outfielders next year and 5 infielders... (kidding, mostly)
  12. I think the only way we're dumping Romero's contract next year is if we take a big, long one in return. The Dodgers would probably take him if we traded for one of their albatross outfielder contracts. Outside of that, it seems like we're definitely stuck with it.
  13. No he hasn't been. He hasn't missed many games, but he has/had a big shoulder problem that was apparently causing him issues when throwing the ball, and a leg issue that's made it difficult for him to move laterally in the field or steal many bases the second half.
  14. That's the spirit! As much as we laugh, if he stays fairly healthy next year he actually COULD be.
  15. Money saved goes into the 6M raise Reyes gets next year, among others.
  16. The game didn't mean anything to us, but we were playing a team very much in the wild card race (they would have been 2 back if they had won). We owe it to the other teams to do everything possible to try to win that game.
  17. I don't know what terms he left on. I really think they're going to go after pitching though, and 1 year of Buehrle might be a lot more attractive to them than a major long term deal.
  18. Yeah, Van Slyke along with Guerrero would be ideal for Buehrle and Navarro. I just don't think the dodgers would eat that much additional money.
  19. Yeah, they'd certainly have to bring in the right guys or it would definitely be a bad decision. Martin would be a great start. Maybe one of the Cubans would be a second. As long as they didn't invest it in the pen. You'd have to think the Dodgers could have interest in both Buehrle and Navarro. Not sure I'd want to eat the contracts of someone like Ethier though, which they'd probably insist on.
  20. I just don't see the Jays trading him, even if it makes a certain amount of sense to do so given financial constraints. I agree though, it's fun to watch him when he gets locked in. I also think it's incredibly valuable having him around the young pitchers in terms of showing the importance of changing speeds, working fast, and hitting your spots.
  21. Yeah, it was a good idea. Just hit it a tiny bit too hard.
  22. Yeah, this game is absolutely flying. Congrats to Buehrle. That's one hell of an impressive streak.
