    JV needs to start taking that shot. They aren't biting on any fakes, even a little. They're giving it to him for free, and he can hit them from there.

    He's definitely missed more than that. I know there were stretches of a week or so when the Jays said he had a tight back and wouldn't be starting, but he was available in a pinch, etc. Those are just the official ones.

    This is my feeling too. Estrada should be an upgrade over Happ at lesser cost (assuming Happ is traded, which I get a sense he will be), and I think we'll see a big improvement in Smoak getting out of Seattle (not to the level of Lind with the bat, but he also shouldn't need to be platooned either). When you look at the players who are on the way out (aside from the guys they indicated they'd like to bring back in Melky or relievers), you get Lind, Rasmus, possibly Happ. All players who have had questionable clubhouse makeup. Players seem to get a kick out of Lind, but I don't get a sense that he fits in overly well. Rasmus much less so. Happ made quite a big fuss out of not starting initially, etc. I think this might be more about the clubhouse than anything else. As long as they DO address some things like 2nd base, I really don't have a problem with these moves. They have to follow this up properly though.

    I guess it depends on how many NL teams see him as viable at 1st base every day (I'm assuming the Brewers do). Otherwise, the market is pretty damn limited, as a number of AL teams where he would normally fit have no room for him. Happ would fit on most teams as a #5 at reasonable cost.

    SIERRA: 3.28, 3.26, 3.43, 3.90 In reality, if he's replacing Happ, then we basically just upgraded our 5th starting pitcher, and saved a few million in the process. Happ likely brings a similar return (if not more) than what Lind would have anyway. We'll have to see how it plays out though.

    If they view Estrada as a reliever, then this is a terrible deal imo. I think he's going to be starting though, in which case I think this is actually pretty decent.

    Yeah, I don't have a big problem with this, although I would have preferred to get some cheap bullpen arms rather than pay 3-4M each for them on the open market. I suspect AA will now turn around and trade Happ, with Estrada replacing Happ at lesser cost (or he's planning to trade Buehrle, and needs to protect himself for the lost innings). Estrada's xFIP last 4 years: 3.58, 3.48, 3.63, 4.19

    Miller Park and Rogers Centre are pretty similar when it comes to home run rates.

    Dirks makes Mayberry expendable imo. Likely slightly cheaper, and much better.

    A Mayberry / Lind platoon is an excellent option, but neither has much value defensively (although I think Lind's excellent ability to scoop the ball at first makes up for his poor range a little). It's tough to roster multiple guys best suited to platoon DH. At least Dirks doesn't fit that mold.

    What lesson exactly is that? If the bosses wanted him to do it the previous year, they were probably a little firmer about it the next year. If he refused, he's probably fired on the spot.

    That's a nice little pickup, provided he's not playing every day.

    Fairly SSS, but Redmond has a career 3.25 FIP and 3.61 xFIP vs righties (with a good k/bb), and gets destroyed vs lefties. Moving him to a role where they can match him up better makes a certain amount of sense. Hendriks should be roughly equivalent to Redmond in the long relief role. Of course, the also probably could have just plopped Jenkins in that role.

    This seems a little odd, but I have to think he's the new long man next year. Throws strikes, youngish, cheap, some upside. Could be a lot worse options imo, especially since Redmond will almost certainly be graduating to higher profile situations. Seems like a bit of a waste to give up a player to get someone to fill that role though.

    The poor defense in actual games surprises me a bit. I could have sworn when Smoak was coming up, he was billed as an elite defender.

    Me too. Really glad he's been called up.

    Smoak's career road splits are quite a lot better than his home ones (mostly due to a babip more in line with what you'd expect to see). It's possible he's doing something different in Safeco, or for some reason just doesn't see the ball well there.

    Interesting. Also looks like Seattle is just about done with Saunders as Jack Z called him out, so maybe a Lind for Saunders swap?

    Yeah, this is very surprising. It would be interesting to know what Seitzer signed for in Atlanta.
