  1. Chacin could be interesting as a reliever. No idea if he'd be willing to sign as one though. Last year when he wasn't starting, his velocity ticked way up and he put up an xFIP of 3.19 with 11 k/9. With the increased velocity, nasty slider, and good curve, he could be very, very good.
  2. 1st basemen are probably a little more difficult to calculate, as you have things like holding a runner on (which reduces range) and picking bad throws (I think this is partially accounted for?).
  3. His upside is probably average defensively (maybe a tad below), but I don't think he's likely as bad as the small sample sizes indicate. I mean there's certainly other players I'd rather, but it all depends on cost (and willingness to sign). If we spend in other areas, we have to save somewhere. Tucker is the kind of target who could come into play in that scenario.
  4. One presumably cheap trade target could be Preston Tucker as a platoon mate for Upton. He had a shoulder issue last year, but pretty consistent minor league numbers.
  5. Apparently Wacha could be available, and probably wouldn't cost an arm and a leg (just one of the two). If we were to trade Estrada for a comparable outfielder and trade for Wacha, that would be a good swap (save us some money too). Wacha has 3 arbitration years left I think.
  6. I like my team overall but they aren't performing well to start the season, especially my forwards. I should be middle of the pack, not that I'm complaining mind you.
  7. Holy crap, Zeros team has a +/- of -29 on the week. That's amazing.
  8. Melky is a terrible fielder. He'd be more interesting as a DH, but we have Morales. Bringing Lawrie back could be interesting if we were to turn him into a super util guy. He can play pretty much every position in a pinch, and would provide nice protection at 3B and 2B. I see no reason he couldn't be average to above average in the OF and 1B too. I'd love to buy lowish on Abreu.
  9. Ethier could be available too, although that isn't completely clear.
  10. I assume Dermody probably makes the pen too, and could be very, very good.
  11. Morales in the outfield, Bruce, Bautista as a legit outfielder, ... I'm pretty sure at this point the FO doesn't value defense in the outfield (at least at the corners).
  12. The closer's role just for one game. We all know why.
  13. Shelby certainly didn't.
  14. I wouldn't mind seeing a reliever have to face at least 3 batters (or have the inning end).
  15. He'd be a very nice fit as a bench bat, if he comes at around Smoak money.
  16. Yeah, I don't know either. Maybe he just wasn't willing to come here.
  17. This game tonight is ugly. Not playing well on either side of the ball.
  18. Very entertaining game, regardless of the outcome. I don't know wtf the refs are doing these last 30 seconds though.
  19. I don't really see the need. If someone goes down for more than a few games, just stretch Biagini out on the fly. No reason to waste him in AAA when he can help the big league team.
  20. It seems he might actually be above average defensively at 1B. He could very well put up ~3 WAR there over a full season.
  21. There's no upside to declaring early, only downside. Maybe you fall down the stairs or something, etc.
  22. He put up 3.4 total in the three years prior to last year. It doesn't seem all that far fetched.
  23. Trout has been to the postseason once in 6 years. Halladay was in the postseason twice in 16 years. They were BOTH great in both situations.
  24. I don't think so. I think it has to do with his very visible, frequent, and demonstrative arguments with the umps. Lots of people may complain, but most don't show the umps up. Apparently one of the worst offenders in baseball was Jeter, but he did it in such a way that no one ever noticed.
  25. I actually disagree on a premium arm. I'd rather the kind of money spent on a Jansen be used to add another big bat instead. There's a lot of hype over the premium arms right now, and I feel like this would be the worst possible time to add one.
