  1. I'm gonna take a wild stab and say Mallex is going to the Phillies.
  2. IMO it's not even close to veto worthy. It's just an odd gamble to take.
  3. I don't know why he didn't simply wait until the tail end of the draft. No way were you protecting him through the cutdown. Hell, using the 2nd round pick on Ortiz in the draft, while a reach, would at least have saved him a keeper slot.
  4. The WBC isn't really for us, it's to increase global baseball interest in other countries that don't have a higher end league.
  5. There's 3 or 4 teams with less projected from both their corner outfielders than us, and more with poor projections in one of the two spots. There's plenty of need, and no one bit. There's more to it, has to be.
  6. To be fair, apparently no one else wanted to pay Smith 7M either. There's probably something in the underlying medicals, etc that we don't know about.
  7. I forgot about Hammel, he could be passable too. As for Moss, I think the projections are for him playing 1B where the defensive metrics don't like him. In the outfield he's average to maybe slightly above average. Changing that, and the projected WAR is probably about the same as Hammel.
  8. True, but there's guys available like Moss who could be signed at a likely discount for the outfield (not to mention Bautista still) and produce adequately. Outside of Tyson Ross (who's a bit of an injury risk himself), the other remaining starting pitchers are either puke inducing or made of expensive glass.
  9. We really, REALLY need to keep Stroman and Sanchez. Beyond this coming year, the starting pitching is a problem. Guys on the farm probably won't be ready yet, and if we move Stroman or Sanchez, we'd have to replace 3 starting pitchers through trade or free agency. That's not a good place to be in.
  10. His parents are both Canadian.
  11. Can we get this processed please?
  12. I'd probably do Bruce for Smoak straight up. You'd be getting Bruce for just under 9M this year, plus saving Smoak's 4M next year.
  13. Why? He's a solid prospect, walks, doesn't strike out a lot, and should play above average defense. He'll probably be more of an average big leaguer rather than a star, but that's okay.
  14. I wonder how long it'll take for the Mariners to move Dyson to 1B, or DH, or something? That's their MO, isn't it? Move good defensive players to other positions, and move 1B/DH guys to the OF? On a personal note, in the LOD I was really REALLY looking forward to Strahm getting a chance to start
  15. Halladay's issue wasn't baseball related. Lee and Shields were both approaching their mid-30s before they had issues, and Bumgarner is a number of years away from that. Felix could be a valid indicator, although his high reliance on off-speed pitches could be at least as large a factor as the innings count.
  16. I might take Bumgarner over Strasburg even if Strasburg didn't have the injury history. MadBum is so ridiculously consistent.
  17. I think I'd rather just use Pompey.
  18. I'd trade Estrada if we could sign Ross (both are probably equal injury risks next year, and Ross would be cheaper with extra years of control). Aside from that though, it would be hard to trade from our staff (especially Stroman or Sanchez).
  19. Archer has 5 extremely affordable years left on his contract (38.5M over the next 5 years), and is basically an ace who just turned 28. Yeah, I can see it.
  20. We need to start making shots against good teams. This is just embarrassing. Outplayed and outworked.
  21. To FrenchSoup: Lorenzen To Abomination: R4 MiLB (AG)
  22. I don't know what's gotten into Siakam today, but he's playing like he wants to make a statement.
  23. I think that's his wife.
  24. Well, he's basically a top 100 prospect. You'd think a company would perhaps be willing to take a gamble on 20k in return for Alford agreeing to do a certain number of promotions for them in the future (say).
