    I would expect more along the lines of Pillar, Hernandez/Pearce, and a FA. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Aoki move in August to a contender.

    Well, Stroman has two extra years of control also. Those matter (a lot). I'm not particularly fond of the return given the injury concerns all around, but there is some pretty significant upside in the package. Oakland could do very well with it. If they had waited until the offseason or next trade deadline, it's highly unlikely they would have done any better. edited: Hmm, I thought Gray was a free agent after 2018 for some reason.

    I'm not even opposed to him as a starter, on a one year deal (but obviously at much less than he's making this year). We really, really need at least one solid to high end SP this offseason, and there aren't many really good options. Arrieta, Darvish, and Otani are probably the big three (I don't think Tanaka will opt out). A guy like Estrada or Liriano would make a good 5th starter.

    Makes sense to wait until September, or if a trade is made in August. I could actually see Aoki traded later in the year if a contender has an injury and wants a fundamentally sound bench bat with some experience.

    Randy Johnson and Schilling probably give them a run, even if the rest of the rotation was meh. In 2002, they combined to go 47-12, with 650 strikeouts. In 2001, 43-12 with 665 strikeouts. Johnson came close to 400 k's that year.

    He's basically Stroman, both in size and in results.

    Willie Calhoun is a nice get for Texas in the Darvish deal. Big power with next to no strikeouts.

    That's a very good return for Liriano, who we might end up resigning again in the offseason anyway lol.

    Aoki is actually arbitration eligible I think. Interesting. I wonder if we're eating the Liriano money AND taking Aoki to improve the return? Aoki + Hernandez would be fantastic.

    When you listen to the same guys, game after game, year after year, little things tend to start really bothering you. I think that's it more than anything else. I'll easily take them over guys who spend entire innings talking about what they ate for lunch, and stuff like that.

    How many pitches do you think it'll take for Revere to end up at 3rd? This is almost as bad a matchup as you could imagine.
