  1. FFS, the automatic 3-0 strike needs to die.
  2. Of all the things to complain about, Smoak not getting himself thrown out at 3rd base with two outs isn't one of them.
  3. It pains me to say it, but he's at least partially right. The aggregate data allows us to challenge established (and possibly inaccurate) strategies in general, but it is not correct to blindly apply it to specific situations. What matters in an individual situation is the likelihood for the players coming up in the game to get the runner in. I suspect the data would show that sometimes in individual situations it is correct to bunt, and most of the time it is not.
  4. I was just starting to enjoy the early 2019 Biagini experience
  5. Coming into today we were 15th (in baseball, not the AL). Early season and cold weather will do that.
  6. The people in the room are actual umpires (which is even worse). They rotate through there as part of the general umpire schedules.
  7. Someone in Cleveland has naughty pics of the guy in the replay room or something. That was pretty damn clear.
  8. Gibbons had some real head scratchers too, but somehow they had a knack of working out.
  9. Montoyo may be overusing the analytics.
  10. Yeah. *cough* Judge *cough*
  11. It can give you a basic idea, but you sure as hell don't use batting average to evaluate it.
  12. God those drunk fans suck.
  13. You're talking about someone with the equivalent of about 2 months of PA, only 75 of which have come outside of September/October. Still very small sample size territory here. If you're talking more generally about the team rather than Brito, then go look at the big names batting worse to start the season. It's a long list, with a lot of all-star appearances.
  14. Pretty simple solution. Next time he hits one, every single person on the bench fills up his jersey, pants, glove, the works.
  15. I'm not sure about that (not for a long time anyway), but I think we will see them use some kind of augmented reality glasses or something to aid them.
  16. Nah, the last name isn't good enough for 80 grade. Maybe if it was Socrates El'Enchus or something.
  17. I'd be fine with giving Stroman 4/55 right now, and probably even fine giving that to Sanchez too if he can make the trade deadline with no blister issues.
  18. I think I'd rather trade him, assuming the return was worthwhile. He already has a spotty behavior record, and I'm not sure he'll do so well on a pure, rebuilding team. I'd rather cash in at the deadline before he torpedoes his value. Someone stupid is gonna need a good closer.
  19. I feel like at least one of Stroman or Sanchez will get extended (assuming they don't completely crap the bed in the first half).
  20. Kikuchi probably isn't enjoying his first game in Chicago. I mean, first of all it's Chicago ...
  21. What does that have to do with anything? You manipulate service time to gain an extra year of control for which you're (probably) underpaying the player. Doesn't matter whether he's 25 after those 6 years or 30+.
  22. I don't think they expected to be able to trade Morales and Pillar, and once that happened and they decided some of the kids needed some more everyday at bats, then they needed some filler that can clog up the bench and shake some pom poms. Really, Brito is probably the ceiling of the guy we gave up to get him, so we probably upgraded there regardless. We simply got crap that's a slightly more pleasant consistency. Hanson might not have been our idea, but he has played a SSS decent SS and CF with other experience around the diamond, so in a rebuilding year that could have some value even if he couldn't even hit himself with his own bat if he tried. The other two guys both hold some intrigue imo, and are more the kind of lottery tickets you'd expect for Pillar. I'm not really sure there's anything to question.
  23. They really only started to tear it down last trade deadline, so calling it a lack of progress is pretty unfair. We replenished our farm system and then some (especially at the high end) while still trying to compete the last 2 years, and are now in a position to build a new core in two year time frame. I'd say it's going quite well.
  24. There's two other teams this week that might give you a run for your money there.
