  1. I could see something like Sogard to the Cards for Gant maybe.
  2. I have to think we'd be looking at a Teoscar, McKinney, Merryweather, Thornton type guy. Nothing wrong with that though. If you're expecting a future high-impact top prospect, it isn't happening.
  3. It seems like players don't bring prospect currency like they used to, particularly ones with no service time. I think something like Stroman and Giles for Urias and Verdugo would be more likely.
  4. It feels to me like most bad calls are on balls outside the zone rather than inside it, in which case it should benefit the hitters more. I don't have proof of that though.
  5. The calls against the rookie batters that we've been seeing would seem to disagree with this assessment. Trout probably gets the walk though.
  6. It's a results-oriented business. Grichuk is in a bad funk right now, has a great at-bat to work the walk, and instead has it taken away because the ump decides he's had enough. He has every right to be mad. The pitch wasn't even remotely close.
  7. At least in those games, apparently, the ump generally warns the batter that they'd better be in swing mode. He called that at-bat normally, then bailed as soon as he saw an opportunity. That's inexcusable, and very different.
  8. Grichuk had a right to be mad there. That kind of thing by an ump should get him a fine from the league.
  9. Very unlikely. They'll probably send him somewhere at the trade deadline.
  10. Kratz in 21 games (53 PA) has a 0 wRC+ this year. The nice thing about Jansen, at least, is that his walk and k rates are actually perfectly fine. I'd be a hell of a lot more worried otherwise.
  11. Well, you also want to make sure whatever changes he's made are retained, rather than possibly reverting by being called up and trying to do too much. Call him up after the trade deadline.
  12. It may very well be. Just one of those thoughts that pop into the head from time to time. At least THAT is something that can be taught if necessary.
  13. Tellez is hitting dramatically better vs lefties than righties. It's probably just SSS fueled by BABIP, but the fact he IS hitting against them (and with power) is really encouraging.
  14. Stroman's xFIP is 4.16, which is the highest of his career. He's been getting good results, but it's not like it's well supported. Shoemaker was also 4.36 xFIP, but 1.57 ERA. Thornton is 4.61. Giles has been outstanding. I don't know, maybe some of the good luck those guys have had can be attributable to Jansen's game calling too. It was just something I wondered about.
  15. Apparently it's actually the fastball that affects his finger, not the curve.
  16. I wonder if not having Martin behind the plate calling the game is part of our pitching issues? Jansen has been awesome at throwing out runners and framing, but since a lot of pitchers don't shake off the catcher much, game calling could be a problem.
  17. Drury is awful in the outfield. In fact, I think I'd take Bautista out there over him.
  18. Watching a guy like Ohtani hit is enjoyable, along with several other guys. What I don't like in general is the NL strategy where you pitch around guys to get to the pitcher. I also don't like pitchers being pulled after like 70 pitches because they come up to the plate in a close game.
  19. Will Smith sure didn't mope about regarding his demotion. He's hit home runs in 5 straight games now in AAA.
  20. THAT was crushed.
  21. Clearly he was called up to Atkins office to be released, neglected to knock first, and captured photos of Atkins jerking off to prospect porn.
  22. Well, we have Phelps and Kingham now, so that should make Jackson go away.
  23. It's too bad Luciano is out. The second half of the season would have been a perfect situation to run him out there. You can still control his innings as necessary. Ah well.
  24. He's not really going deep enough in the game for it to matter. Just pop a random reliever in there for once through the order.
