  1. I might have gone with, how dumb are the Nats for giving him high leverage innings period?
  2. For some reason, there's nothing I love more than seeing Fernando Rodney blowing a save.
  3. He's an above average outfielder, average 2nd baseman, walks at a good clip, doesn't strike out much. He's really a perfect bench bat. You don't want to put a young prospect in a role where they may only be playing twice a week.
  4. I'm all for this, especially if we end up trading Sogard. He'd be a good bench bat.
  5. We just need good prospects period. I'm fine with us buying pitching and developing bats, if that's how we get the best talent.
  6. Kinda looks like that ball would have gone into the seats if the fan hadn't touched it anyway. This is a good reason to extend the netting though.
  7. That's exactly what they should be doing. You can't create a supporting cast until you know what the primary cast is. Some prospects fail. It sucks for us to watch, but it's 100% the right move.
  8. Surprised how shallow Mercado was playing with Vladdy up.
  9. Gray for Shed Long and a competitive balance pick was awful. Really awful.
  10. Almost certainly. I think Frazier is being drastically undervalued around here.
  11. Only I can jinx pitchers. It's written into the fabric of the universe.
  12. Huh. I think my reaction would be no, but interesting concept. Andujar's defense is worrying.
  13. Really hard to tell. He almost reached past the bag rather than over it. I think he was probably safe. Worth looking at though.
  14. 4th I believe (Verlander pitcher earlier). More importantly, I think he's 10th in WAR. (qualified)
  15. The Cards just put up 8 extra base hits in one inning!
  16. 1) It may not have been their decision. In fact, I think that was already widely reported on that they wanted to blow it up and weren't allowed to. 2) Saying it wasn't the right move because of how things turned out doesn't mean it wasn't the right move at the time. You can get good results from bad process and bad results from good process. If the offer was too low at the time, then they made the right move to turn it down regardless of how things ended up.
  17. It's possible, but seems very unlikely. More likely is talks just didn't get to a point where his agent thought it necessary to tell him. Maybe the Jays aren't too enthusiastic about extending him, or maybe Stroman's side is just asking for too much to be worth exploring. Who knows. I seriously doubt there's been no discussion at all between them though.
  18. We don't know what Stroman is asking for. If we're dead set on trading him rather than paying him 5/75 or something, then management is being outrageous. If he's asking for 6/150, thanks for the memories and good luck.
  19. It's really incredible just how much sink Stroman gets on that fastball. He's not quite Derek Lowe territory, but he doesn't have the same angle to work with either.
  20. Yes, but that's not the point. The point is, the return probably would have been light at the time, and turning it down was probably correct (depending on who the other piece was).
  21. Looking at the date of the tweet, it sounds like that would have been offered in the winter of 2017 or early spring 2018, when we still expected Donaldson to be elite and part of a competing team. It wasn't last offseason (for obvious reasons). That return probably would have been a little light for someone coming off 8.7, 7.6, and 5.1 WAR seasons.
  22. Same basic risk today or in 5 days though, only they'd get him for one more start. I don't see that as an excuse for waiting. I think teams will wait until the last minute for buyers and sellers to shake out, since there's so many bubble teams atm.
  23. Well, if they pulled the trigger now he wouldn't be pitching this evening.
  24. He'll start unless there's an imminent trade. He won't make the start on the 29th or 30th though.
  25. You might be able to make an argument that he's the best starter available even if those guys are on the market. They may have more upside, but all 3 are having subpar years at higher cost.
