If our pitching doesn't completely implode (and that's a huge if), I think we could actually play close to .500 ball the rest of the season. We have a lot of high end young bats who could make a lot of noise, and a lot of young players very eager to make an impression.

I would rate the deadline a C- or a D personally. I like three of the players we acquired (Fisher, Kay, and Woods-Richardson). I think we BADLY lost both of the "major" trades. They may work out well for us, but I don't think we got anywhere close to fair value at the time of the trade. I think we lost the Phelps trade, based on the scouting reports I've seen and his stats. However, if some of the verbal reports about Hatch having really good untapped stuff are true, then I might change my mind on that. Otherwise, he seems like a guy who, at best, might make a few shuttle trips and generally provide negative value. The Hudson trade I find more interesting. We probably got decent value there, especially if we move Johnston to the pen. Brock Stewart is an interesting free pickup, at least from a potential talent perspective. I'm interested to see who pitches in the rotation for the next two months. I find it hard to believe we'll be aggressive in calling up prospects, as they probably aren't quite ready yet and it would be stupid at this point to start the clock on someone who isn't. Signing someone like Harvey for the rest of the season feels like a no-brainer.

I'm fine with Atkins being in charge of the draft, but he should never be allowed to talk to another GM about a trade again. Ever. I like three of the players we've gotten, but imo we lost on pushed on every single trade we made this deadline (except for possibly Hudson) while selling from a position of strength.

There's virtually no chance he starts in their non-playoff one either.

Sanchez just said he expects to remain a starter. There's going to be some interesting discussions between him and Houston management very shortly.

There had better be. I like Fisher, but the return was still a bit light imo before adding more on our side. I'm sure we're adding money too ... because we have in pretty much every trade.

Fisher appears to be a legitimate CF with high walk rates and power, and a guy who is starting to use the whole field at the plate. He is a very good pickup. Weak arm is probably the only real knock on him.

IMO Fisher > all our outfielders except Gurriel.

Law pitched the last 2 games, and 3 of the last 4. Mayza has thrown in 3 of the last 4.

Very few other options. Most guys were either used in this game, or had pitched 3 out of 4 or the last 2. They probably wanted to keep someone (Gaviglio) in reserve in case he's needed for bulk innings tomorrow.

When the deal went down I think I said that we should have been able to get a Kilome/Smith/Szapucki in the deal as a third piece, and that probably would have been a fair trade. I stand by that now.

I don't know what you're trying to say here. Stroman is putting up more WAR than Bauer this year, in spite of pitching considerably fewer innings. Both are pitching with the same juiced ball.

Franmil may be better than you think. He's improved his defense this year a bit, has good walk (8.3%) and acceptable k (26.6%) rates, and put up a 129 and 116 wRC+ the last two years, and appears to be a little unlucky this year at the plate.

Bauer clearly has a higher talent level than Stro, but I'd encourage everyone to actually LOOK at Bauer's Fangraphs page. It's not what you'd expect to see, outside of last season. It surprised the hell out of me.

Yeah, after reading more about his current issues, that's a no for me too. I would have given them Biagini for him though.
