  1. Guess the Indians WERE serious about trading Bauer. Really interested to see what the return is.
  2. Getting favorable calls in another team's park. What's happening here?
  3. Yeah. Apparently he had back surgery a few years ago. Maybe it's something related to that.
  4. It looks like Allard's velocity has been declining for a few years. That really cuts down on his value. If you can recover it though ...
  5. FFS, I'd be happy with Giles (pre injury) for Allard. Martin is controllable for 4 more years according to Baseball-Reference.
  6. That worked out rather well for us.
  7. They'll probably do similar to Hatch with someone like Denyi Reyes. If we could get a Josh Taylor or some equivalent, that would be more interesting to me though. Actually, I think I'd be plenty happy with Denyi Reyes too. There might be more there than I thought, although softer throwers who rely on command often struggle in the upper minors and majors after dominating in the lower levels.
  8. Straight up? Yuck, that's worse than the Stroman trade (and I happen to LIKE Frazier).
  9. Yeah, the 'stuff' report is interesting, but doesn't seem to be reflected in the various scouting grades or stats performance (which is really all we have to go on as fans). I don't really know what to make of that. That one report aside, the issue for me is that we seem to have a bunch of Hatch type guys already. I'd like to see us try and nab a guy who can be a legit bullpen arm (a Maples or Wick, or probably a dozen other guys in their system, have that ability if they can be fixed), rather than likely a bubble guy. Wick kinda reminds me of Mayza, and a guy who probably just needs an extended opportunity to settle in.
  10. Probably about the same.
  11. Ultimately this is a likely inconsequential move, but one where I just don't see much point. I assume he'll be a shuttle guy next year. I'd rather nab even a wildcard (worse case) like a Maples or a Wick and try to fix them, because the upside is a very good reliever rather than essentially an org guy.
  12. Front offices probably do more because of his strikeout ability. However, even in recent years (including this year), Stroman has out-pitched him in 2 of those 3 years. Bauer has had one elite year in his career that I think skews how people view him, but he doesn't appear to be that guy this year (or any of the other years). It's really startling to look at his FG page, compared to what you would expect to see.
  13. I'm not so sure this is true. Stroman has put up more WAR in his mostly healthy seasons (outside of last year), and lower xFIP. Bauer has thrown 1060.2 innings in his career with an xFIP of 3.98, producing 16.9 WAR. Stroman has thrown 789.2 innings in his career with an xFIP of 3.57, producing 14.7 WAR. Bauer has an xFIP under 4.13 in only 2 of his 6 full big league seasons (and this year is not one of them). Stroman has been under that mark in EVERY year. This will be the 4th (out of 6) years where Stroman exceeds 3 WAR. This will be Bauer's 2nd year (out of 6).
  14. 1M, assuming he doesn't get into more than 12 more games this year. 3M if he does.
  15. Unlikely, at least not until the second half at the earliest.
  16. I don't know. To me, Hatch's ceiling is probably current Phelps. I think I'd have preferred just exercising the option we had on Phelps. I guess he works fine as minor league depth.
  17. On first glance ... eww. After looking Hatch up ... eww. I'd rather we just kept Phelps and exercised our option on him. Someone has to pitch innings next year.
  18. I disagree with this. We accepted a return that's likely below market value well ahead of the deadline. If we had done this deal at the deadline, I'd be comfortable in saying it was the best deal available and be happy about it. If you're going to jump the market, do it having been blown away with an offer. That most certainly didn't happen here. The only valid reason to take that deal now, is if the Mets would otherwise trade Thor and no longer be interested in Stroman if we had waited (it sounds like they may be going for it this year now). Trading guys early who might otherwise get lost in last minute panic (like Sogard) is smart, but don't do so with your valuable chips before the hand is played.
  19. Getting back to the general topic, I wouldn't mind if we could pry Yadier Alvarez away from the Dodgers for Hudson. It seems like he's almost considered an afterthought now, and has had a big falling out with the organization. Seems like the kind of wildcard that could really pay off.
  20. Logically it should, I'm just wondering if it actually DOES? Good point on the Mexican League, although it could still lump the IL and PCL together.
  21. I wish my record better reflected the power rankings.
  22. For the minors, does anyone know if Fangraphs calculated wRC+ on a league basis or level basis? In other words, do the numbers for AAA include all of the International League, PCL, and Mexican League, or does it calculate them for each one separately?
  23. They said it's not trade related.
