  1. Yeah. If you're spreading the risk out with lower AAV and more term, it makes sense. Even 4/80 might not be terrible.
  2. I wonder what eating the Jansen and Kelly contracts, plus sending Giles to the Dodgers would get us?
  3. You would pay Ryu 30M / year for two years, where based on his history, there's a strong likelihood he spends a fair chunk of it on the DL during at least one non-compete season? That's just silly. I could see it (although I think it's a massive overpay) if he was the final piece of the puzzle, but that's not the case.
  4. The translation for anyone not bored enough to pop it into GT: "The Japanese Yoshitomo Tsutsugo deadline for signing with an MLB team through the Transfer System expires on December 19 at 5 pm (ET). Apparently 4 clubs are interested and Toronto is the favorite to sign it."
  5. No way. Ryu doesn't have the health history for a deal like that to make sense, nor does it make sense with regards to the current state of our team.
  6. They do gain two years control as well, and Renfroe improved his defense quite a bit last year. I'm not a huge fan of it, but I can understand it. If Pham's decline in defense and offense continues and Renfroe maintains his, a little more BABIP luck could push them fairly close in value.
  7. Maybe they could allow teams to take that 1 year discount at any year during the contract. That would make the player an incredibly valuable trade chip later in the contract.
  8. Pretty much no chance. They'd probably give us Joc for Giles, but that doesn't fit our timeline. Maybe we could get something like Josiah Gray and DJ Peters.
  9. I'll go with over.
  10. As long as it's the right guy.
  11. Wheeler is such a weird case. He has so many above average pitches, yet the results don't seem to back them up. He doesn't have that one unhittable pitch like a lot of top pitchers do, so maybe that's hurting him a little. Maybe he just tends to lose it for an inning where he can't stop the bleeding, then is dominant the rest of the game.
  12. I'm not sure Cesar can play 3B or SS anyway, so he really needs to be on a team with an opening at 2nd. Maybe SS, but it's been a few years. I'm not sure the range would still be there.
  13. I'd be fine with that.
  14. I think it only becomes guaranteed if he's on the team opening day. Until then, it's a non-guaranteed contract that only requires termination pay (a month or two?)
  15. I don't get it either, but he can still be cut if needed later for what, 500k?
  16. Definitely on Gausman. Travis Shaw at 1B and Jimmy Nelson could also be interesting.
  17. I could definitely see AA signing him as the 4th outfielder.
  18. I think that's his upside if healthy. Make him stop throwing the damn splitter, and you have an above average fastball, slider, and curve. Give him a bonus structure based on games started or something.
  19. I wouldn't mind Treinen, Taijuan Walker, Addison Russell (backup infielder), Danny Hultzen, Trevor Hildenberger, even Sanchez
  20. Seems like a good fit. Low cost with mid-rotation upside. Potentially a good bridge to our youngsters.
  21. I'd hate to be a Jazz player in the locker room at half time.
  22. 1. Then there's no reason to sign him. It has to work for us too. 2. He'd still opt out and try to re-sign or add additional years or something. Unless he's stinking it up, in which case there'd be no difference. 3. What exactly is the higher stakes table (and I'm assuming by flip you don't mean trade, for obvious reasons).
  23. Why would we give him an opt out after year 2, just when we'd probably need him the most?
  24. I'm fine with that. I'd like to keep the flexible cutdown slots though.
  25. FVV might be a candidate for MIP too.
