  1. True, but some of it is denominated in US Dollars and some of it is in Mexican Pesos.
  2. Didn't Cespedes do something that was directly forbidden in his contract? That seems a lot more defensible than a team not giving you medical help, so you sought it out on your own.
  3. Obviously I meant in terms of prospects, not contract.
  4. Over the last four years, among qualified relievers, he's 11th in WAR and 9th in xFIP. I don't think 12M/year is reckless for his age 29 through 33 years, as long as the arm is fine. Similar guys surrounding him like Chapman (okay, Chapman is better), Miller, Kimbrel, Jansen, Britton are all making more than that per year. We're going to need a good closer for at least three of those years anyway, hopefully four, so why not get one at a fair price who wants to be here for those years?
  5. Ouch. That hurts. We really need FVV back!
  6. I think there's the legitimate question of whether teams will offer anything decent for Giles. Most teams just aren't parting with high end prospects for rentals anymore. I think I'd be tempted to offer Giles something like 5/60 (assuming there's no issues in his medicals). Keep him around for when it matters. In an era of volatile relievers, he's been very good and very consistent.
  7. The Yankees should get penalized 50% extra just for attempting that bs.
  8. Atlanta made a substitution 42 seconds into the game tonight. I don't think I've ever seen a healthy substitution made that quick before.
  9. Not that big a deal as long as he has time to get back into form before the playoffs (provided we don't get hammered with injuries in the mean time).
  10. Yeah. Last time was a partial dislocation I think. It's probably the same thing this time.
  11. The NBA is becoming as bad as soccer for diving and embellishing. They really need to clean it up.
  12. Interesting. 90mph fastball as a starter, forkball, slider. Has experience both in the pen and as a starter. He could make a nice partner for Font.
  13. No, but I see it now. Excellent!
  14. The article is kinda crap. They basically ignore reports of potential higher offers because it doesn't fit in with their narrative.
  15. Bumgarner hasn't been elite the last two years, but I'd happily take him at that price. He's probably a #3 starter who eats innings. Lots of value in that.
  16. Kluber wasn't exactly stellar in his starts prior to the broken arm, and then had some other injuries after while rehabbing. He's also 34 this year. It's certainly possible they know something we don't. That said, I think they got fleeced too. I was just trying to find some justification from their end. Maybe they'll even try to start Clase.
  17. I assume this is all about Clase. They must feel like Kluber won't regain his form. Maybe they've spotted something with Deshields and think they can fix him. Who knows. I don't think we have an equivalent pitcher to Clase, but Teoscar probably beats out Deshields.
  18. Yeah, he certainly has the potential. He also went firmly in the wrong direction last year. I don't think Boston moves him in that type of deal, but I'm also not sure he's worth the difference to the Jays to take on Price's salary. You're putting a lot of money on the line to hope for a sustained breakout.
  19. I think we all need to send him 10 nonsense trades as punishment. The ban isn't necessary.
  20. I'm not sure what to say to that. Price is probably worth 20M / year for the next three years on the open market. Are the three arbitration years for Benintendi worth 36M + salary? I actually think they might not be. I wouldn't rage in the streets or anything - in fact, I'd probably be happy about the upgrade - but I'm not sure we'd be getting the value for our money. Ozuna + Bumgarner might be pretty similar in cost per year, and almost certainly would outperform Price and Benintendi.
  21. Just as a guess, they're probably receiving more of the revenue cut that they produce for the media division.
  22. I love watching knuckleballers.
  23. He started hitting a lot more balls in the air, and he doesn't have the power for that. When he first came up, he was killing worms and beating them out. If he can get back to that while keeping his improved walk rate the last few years (plus sitting him versus tough lefties), you might get him to 75 or 80 wRC+. Combined with his defense, that would actually have value. Like I said though, with a non-swing-and-miss staff, that defense may be worth a lot more for us than it would be for other teams.
  24. I wouldn't mind us signing Billy Hamilton (under the condition that he start pounding the ball into the ground again). We're going to have a lot of balls in play next year. Having a truly elite defender out there would likely be beneficial, even if he sucks at the plate.
