  1. Posturing aside, I could actually see a few pitchers deciding not to pitch this year. Some of the free-agents-to-be could be wise not to take the chance of injury this year for a compressed partial season. Bauer (not that he would, especially since he stated he wants to go year-to-year anyway) Arrieta Morton Ray Stroman (also doubt he would) Tanaka Taijaun Walker
  2. I seem to remember reading that the agreement made with the players was contingent on people being in the stands, and the players got part of their salary advanced as part of that deal. It would be negotiated further if there weren't people in the stands. Isn't that what was said? Maybe the MLBPA just isn't telling players what's going on.
  3. I'd much rather see games end in an actual tie after two or three extra innings than runners starting on 2nd in extras and stuff like that.
  4. I believe so. Very smart move too.
  5. Some of our young pitchers would also not have to worry about innings limits.
  6. I'm pretty sure Florida is opening before they even meet the minimums outlined by Trump, let alone what most other world leaders are setting bars for. Aside from that, if no fans are going to be at the games, there's really no reason to play the games in Toronto right now. Make use of our upgraded spring training facility or the Rays/Marlins parks. Cut down on the travel for the players, which should hopefully also reduce the risk to them. The ONLY real benefit to holding the games at RC right now is the roof, which doesn't matter too much outside of the spring/fall. If things go well this summer, the Jays could always switch to RC in the fall. As far as mental health goes for people in Canada, it makes no difference where they're held since they won't be physically attending the games anyway. Definite NO to the CGI fans and crap. Roboumps, yes. Robofans, no.
  7. I'd swap Bautista and Wells in the outfield and Olerud and EE in the infield (or Olerud and Delgado if you're treating util as DH). Aside from that, everything else looks pretty defensible.
  8. I find it exceptionally unlikely they'll be playing in front of fans in many of the parks. I'll be more than happy to watch actual sports on TV. League of Legends just isn't the same.
  9. Clase suspended 80 games. Not clear what will happen if the season is cancelled though.
  10. That's making the VERY big assumption that even empty stadium games will be permitted in Toronto. I don't think that's a given right now.
  11. His command appears to be in midseason form.
  12. From what I've read, Trump basically waived the verification process, which means that companies can create and sell tests without any proof that they actually work. I gather a lot of tests detect the common cold/flu as a positive test along with Coronavirus, which means people who think they're immune might not actually be so. I believe that's why the quick tests have taken longer to be approved here in Canada. They're trying to weed out the crap ones.
  13. I loved watching Stroman on the field, but I won't miss this s*** at all.
  14. Lol. Apparently they literally had a few strategically placed robots in the stands that were programmed to bang on drums and create crowd noise
  15. Apparently China's baseball season started today in front of robot fans!
  16. The biggest issue I can see is that you still have players touching the ball. Pitchers often lick their fingers. If one pitcher gets it, an entire team might. I guess there's the same risk of that whether it's in August or May though.
  17. I wonder what other ones there are? None of these had quite the impact Sanchez did given the timing, but: Josh Towers in 2005 (3.6 WAR) Hinske in 2002 (4.8 WAR) Reed Johnson in 2006 (4.4 WAR) Homer Bush 1999 (2.8 WAR) Woodward in 2002 (2.3 WAR) McGowan in 2007 before his arm imploded in 2008 (3.4 WAR) Chacin in 2005 (2.9 WAR) Litsch in 2008 (2.0 WAR)
  18. I believe most contracts aren't insured. The cost is too high to be worth it.
  19. I gather the league has clauses in the standard contract that allows them to suspend pay if the games are lost due to national emergency. Those haven't been triggered yet, and I guess there's no reason to until the time when the regular season would have started for all teams. We'll probably find out in the next week or so how it will be handled.
  20. Steamer has him projected at 94 wRC+, plus defense, and 0.7 WAR in 1/3 of a season. Nothing wrong with that for a bench player. He's not here to hit home runs.
  21. Panik is basically Sogard with a slightly better bat. He likely won't break out to what Sogard did last year, but he's probably worth the roster space.
  22. Yeah. If baseball happens this year, it probably won't be for much more than two months. Add a month at the start of next year, and you're talking 13 to 14 months recovery time. I'm working under the assumption that there won't be baseball this year though.
  23. Just let us have this moment Honestly though, it sucks. I love watching elite pitchers. He may only end up missing half a season.
