  1. Jays pitchers...breaking players out of slumps everywhere
  2. yep we are down to the Rockies and A's as examples of comebacks from here I think.
  3. Toronto's pro ultimate frisbee (officially disc) team is 7-0 and has a home game on Saturday. It's the team to get behind.
  4. us guys hating JPA is one thing but I thought a female hating him was grounds for vagina removal.
  5. someone on the board needs to tell me if it's worth getting out of my ice bath to watch this game...my old body needs the ice so much more than I need to watch the game right now.
  6. Offers sent. I didn't read what picks you have so I might have to adjust what I suggested. PS. Love the deal for you. Not a Jered fan though.
  7. At this point JPA is getting more work with Dickey than Thole and it might be pretty much equal as to who handles him worse.
  8. I was suggesting Romero and some cash...even if the plan was to DFA him when Lawrie is back I'd be good with that.
  9. Juan Francisco DFA'd by the Braves. I'd probably offer them Romero or cash in a deal. Play him at 3rd for 2 weeks then DFA him.
  10. Mayo put up his mock...so we know none of this will be happening. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130530&content_id=48991342&tcid=tw_article_48991342 At least he doesn't have his comps on there yet where every player in the first 5 rounds comp to an all star. For the record he has: 10. Blue Jays: Austin Meadows, OF, Grayson HS (Ga.) Toronto has interest in Ball and McGuire, but if they're gone, the Blue Jays could go after this high-ceiling, multi-tool outfielder. Last mock draft: 9 (Pirates)
  11. Nice little article on Norris. As Lansing left-hander Daniel Norris took his first steps off the mound in Dayton after giving up six earned runs in 1 1/3 innings, he was already searching for a solution. The 20-year-old walked into the dugout, grabbed the rail and started to cheer on his teammates -- no glove thrown, no stomping into the clubhouse, no time to feel sorry for himself. "It was a defining moment," said Norris, a second-round pick in 2011 out of high school and the No. 3 prospect in the Toronto system. "The very next day ... pitching coach [Vince Horsman] said, 'I don't know any other lefties who throw 95 and get tagged for six runs in one inning. Pitchers get hit around, but you're too good for that.' That really hit home. I credit Vince for helping me turn things around." A 6-foot-2, 180-pound native of Johnson City, Tenn., Norris was 0-3 with a 10.75 ERA through his first seven games this season. He struck out 16 batters and walked 13 while giving up 28 runs in 22 1/3 innings. In three starts since the Dayton debacle on May 8, Norris has yielded one run in 12 innings, allowing seven hits while striking out 22 and walking eight. "All I told Danny was, 'You're a left-hander and you've got good stuff. Go out there with that belief in yourself and let's see what happens. Be aggressive and attack the hitters.'" Horsman said. "He's changed his approach. I don't want to say he was waiting for something bad to happen, but now he's not waiting. He's going after batters." "I think Danny is just realizing that he has the ability and talent to be successful, and he's letting that talent come forth. He's pitching aggressively. Before I think there was a little doubt, and the pressure that comes with being a very high pick. I think he realizes it's still just baseball. 'If I go out there and make good pitches, I have a chance.' And that's what he's done." Norris said his changes have been to his mentality, not his mechanics. He's pitching with more confidence, trusting his pitching arsenal, and going after hitters. It's a reversal from last season as well, when he went 2-4 with an 8.44 ERA in 13 games between Bluefield and Vancouver in his first taste of pro ball. "It was frustrating," Norris said of his poor start to 2013. "Last year kind of went the same way. I didn't have a great year, so I think God put that on my plate to help me deal with adversity. I know how to deal with a bad outing. The next day, I'm ready to work and get better. If you stay hungry and come every day ready to work and get better, good things are going to happen. There are still going to be bad outings, but I know how to deal with adversity and I feel confident in myself. "I wouldn't say I'm figuring out batters. I'd say I'm figuring out myself.
  12. Maybe I'm wrong and they are going to continue to play with one less hitter for at least one more day. Buffalo is in Durham for one more night, if the move is coming from Buffalo, you'd think that they'd make it before the team heads north.
  13. no because they could become the best relievers on the team and he still doesn't have room to keep them (while this isn't 100% true, at a minimum we'd be paying someone else to not play eating up their value)
  14. First of all Negrych shouldn't be added at all. That just causes even more of a roster pinch. If there is any thought of him having a chance to stick with this team as a utility guy you have to do it later in the year or after making deals at the deadline. As for the rest of it, when you have essentially a 3 man rotation right now, you have to save the pen. You do that by employing guys that have options, and after an outing (even a good one) you send them down and bring up fresh guy from the minors. Then he has to stay there for 10 days, time it well and bring him back up. Right now Thad, Crawford and Wagner are the only expendable arms with options. They will probably go back and forth until we have something close to 5 real starters again. You also use DFA candidates to get spot starts until then. It's not the best way to get back into contention but it's the team we have.
  15. The cut down to 20 should be super interesting in this pool. Especially for the guys that are shoving young NA players away. Most teams will have 10 guys to cut, will be super tough decisions to make.
  16. They should be looking to trade Rasmus as well. He's got enough value to bring us a young pitcher still in my mind. Gose comes up, we use Bonifacio or Rajai (obviously you wouldn't trade one of them) as back up this year and then next year you look for our own Craig Gentry (a CF that can hit lefties and play all 3 fields well), with Pillar as the minor league insurance. Fans won't like it but it's really one of the best baseball moves we can make at this point.
  17. Trade deadline last year was a chance to get out of a roster management mess but they just made a bigger mess of it. I don't expect them to make intelligent moves this year either. If Oliver is willing to except a trade by all means he should be dealt, regardless it's probably got to happen after he's added back to the 25 man. Guys that should absolutely be dealt are Oliver, Rajai and Boni. Just are you going to trade them for guys that don't need to be added to the 40 man? Josh Johnson should be moved too. However we have to have 5 starters for that to happen.
  18. I'll keep saying what I've said all year. He has to almost break the AL HR record for catchers (37) just to be a 1 WAR player. If some balls don't make it out of the park he's replacement level. If balls aren't leaving the park for extended times (we'll call this time when he's on the road) he's so beyond useless.
  19. Juan walked 8 in 7 innings over 10 appearances for the Brewers last year and has walked more than 5 per every 9 AAA innings over 9 seasons. If it was in the plans to DFA him after this game they still should do so, it's truly not a loss. Wagner as I said last week has major league stuff. he's always been very hittable and gets hit cleanly (huge line drive rates against, including 31% this season). I made an assumption that he didn't have options, but it appears he does. I'd think that he may get sent down again but I figure he'll stay on the 40 man for a while. Here is the situation with approximate dates for when these things have to happen. There are currently 4 players on the 15 day DL Rajai Davis - Should be back soon, easy move Gose gets sent down Brett Lawrie - Whoever gets called up tomorrow gets sent down Johnson - Who knows, but one of these piece have to go Oliver - If Wagner has options, he's probably a victim of the numbers game by the time Oliver is back. On the 60 day is 7 more. That means by the end of the year that 7 more players have to be DFA'd. However of the 7 players on the 60 day at least 3 will be back before the all star game and all have to be added to the 25 man roster McGowan - June 11th is the date where he has to be added to both the 40 man and 25 man. Reyes - No idea when he's back but the only guy with options is Kawasaki. Fanbase will be livid but it's the smartest move for them. Happ - I imagine he'll be back close to his first date available to be back. The others probably max out their 30 days of rehab or don't pitch again this year. Buying the Jays more time. Anyway this is my list of order for DFA's at this point. 1. Perez (one good outing and maybe we can get more innings out of him somehow) 2. Weber - He's just not good and he'll be able to stay with the org as he's most likely clearing waivers. 3. Storey - See above 4. Crawford - He's got options I'd rather see him with the team next year than a bunch of these guys but he is just isn't a big deal 5. Romero - Has to be a thought at least 6. Gomez - Too many guys can play 1B before he should get a chance. If they think he can play 3B he might get the call tomorrow. And if that happens his DFA moves way up to 1 or 2 on my list. 7. Derosa or Izturis - Probably not going to happen. It's just a mess and if Morrow has to go on to the DL it's even worse. So anyway this is a long way around to say why guys aren't getting added to the 40 man...anyone who comes up now is probably going to be cut eventually.

Hawks just got robbed of a potential game winning goal. Looked to me like Saad was just getting thrown into bench, ref comes in without even watching the play and calls for off setting penalties.
  21. This why you don't bet baseball unless it's a system (I know this sounds wrong coming from me as I love to bet baseball, but it's not a profitable ordeal). Perception in baseball is so seldom reality
  22. I think I was wrong. Looks like he was added for the first time when he was called up in 2011. So he'd use one option in 2012 only. Nice asset to have, like I said I'm surprised they didn't use him earlier then.
