  1. And people were optimistic for good reason. Great pitch...just lucky smart swing
  2. It's one of the few situations I can remember since the 2nd weekend of the season where the fans appear to be optimistic about a big AB
  3. Roto is meant for cash leagues, with no bench and weekly moves for me. None of us would have drafted the same for Roto so Roto standings mean nothing for the league.
  4. And Friday's starter is...strong possibility they announce Stroman
  5. The real issue with Snider is that the front office thought he was flawed in around 2011 or earlier and didn't trade him. Hearing this was my breaking point with this F.O. and realized they work around perception more than baseball knowledge. The reason that AA was so quiet for those first three years is now obvious that if he talked as much as he did last season and this off season many would realize that he's not the guy the media was selling
  6. I think it's been realized that there is zero point to having that many area scouts and such. We all fell for it, it sounded great that no player was being overlooked. It did provide us with some late steals too...however we didn't sign them. Having so many of our 2009 to 2011 late picks move up to a first few rounds is impressive but it did nothing to help the club. With today's limits on late picks it's going to be even harder than ever to get any steal signed. And college players it's just known for late steals unless there were injury or character issues (maybe a guy somewhere who changes from pitcher to hitter). Now it's just a waste of resources and far too many opinions (just like having so many former GMs on the staff). Unless you are scouting non traditional baseball areas and finding someone that no one is even looking at, it's just not worth it to hire more scouts than anyone else. Last year he moved a bunch of his scouts to professional scouting which is just stupid in today's era of stats and video, but this is what happens when you hire friends of friends, it's tough to get rid of them

  8. I love the guys that do their swearing into the jersey
  9. we are all wrong...good thing K's don't mean anything
  10. I sense a walk here for JPA...just cause I did the contest today
  11. Chris Sale missing his next start with mild tendonitis in left posterior shoulder. Fantasy players...if you learned anything from last year, hit up Chris Sale owners there will be "I knew this would happen" panic going on.
  12. i remember how insane I thought the Pirates were for abandoning Stetson Allie as a pitcher after less than 30 IP...well he's now hitting to a slash line of .325/.405/.588. He may be 22 in A ball but still impressive and some are saying he has the most power in the Pirates org.
  13. come on Zobrist you have to come in harder than that...was so hoping he Buck'd the s*** out of JPA
  14. Gibbons managing like it's September...which it might feel like for him
  15. won't be eligible but I like to get the ball rolling. funny part about the contest is that about 3 minutes after announcing the contest the official Jose Bautista account started following the Message Board account. Maybe he wants to submit an entry.
  16. I'm going to give away a pair of 500 level tickets to the winner of a contest the board is running on Twitter (trying to gain members for the board). I'll give a week or so but I'm looking for the best joke about JPA's walk rate. Please use the hashtag #top10catcher to be eligible. You can mention @BlueJaysBoard if you wish. Winners will be voted on here. Rules - must have #top10catcher - I will decide the top 10 and post them here for voting. - tickets will be best available for the game you choose. - If we don't get more than 10 entries I reserve the right to cancel the contest. - enter as often as you like. please retweet the contest around.
  17. Most Toronto fans boo every name they on the other teams that they actually know. That's why they only boo the Ex-Toronto players.
  18. Colby's on pace for a over 2 WAR season. If he's a .240/.305/.425 line he's going to get an increase in Arbitration...most everyone does. I don't think it's in Colby's or the Jays best interest to extend by one year. Even if the Jays truly believe that Colby is still going to be this breakout star during his primetime years, it still makes sense to move him if the right deal comes along. Colby is hitting well below his career line against RHP right now, normalization of that and his K-rates should make him better and there are teams out there that will see that but the Jays have someone that can be as valuable in Gose, it's the one position where they can easily replace and not lose too much so why not make that move?
  19. Playing well can happen in small sample sizes (and I've been away for 5 days without internet so I wasn't sure what anyone's role will be. However the statement still stays true, The F.O has to move towards transitioning to Gose as our CF without hurting the perception with the fans they need to buy tickets. Doing that would be him showing well (even in really small sample sizes) in the majors.
  20. David Dejesus got 2 years $10/M at the age of 30. Colby will be a FA at 28 and even at his current pace will be coming off of a similar season...he's still getting 2 years plus option offers IMO.
  21. I think that the Jays front office are working on perception more than baseball sense (which they lack) and Colby is one of the few guys they can move that makes it appear like they are still moving forward. He's going to get probably $6M in arbitration next year and should still have some trade value to a team that wants 1.5 years of a CF who's K-Rates should normalize. Stubbs with 2 years of Arbitration still got Choo. Rasmus can probably bring in a young struggling starter which will give the Jays some options if they continue to have injuries. Then moving forward what do we do in CF...well a smart F.O would turn copy Texas and create a true platoon with Gose and someone who can only hit lefties (Preferably younger, cheaper and a better defender than Rajai but as I said our front office isn't that smart). Gose against Righties and someone like AJ Pollock against Lefties is probably a 5 WAR CF and would give the team so much more for options. I know there a bunch of guys that I truly thought had to be platoon guys that eventually ended up hitting well against their weaker split but that still doesn't mean that you can't start a younger player out and almost never let him see a lefty or rightie. There is practice and Spring to work on your game for future years.
  22. What I do like about this move is that lets say Sierra/Negrych/anyone else plays well, what are we going to do when everyone's healthy? At least if Gose plays well we have an option (which is trading Rasmus without worrying about what the casual fanbase thinks ... although after spending a week at the cottage with a group of casual fans I'm not sure how much of a casual fanbase we have left anyway). Right now Gose is exactly what I always thought he'd be (a guy that has power but can't do s*** when he tries to swing for the fences or a guy that is a slap hitter and tries to use his legs/eye to make him get on base enough to allow his running and defensive skills to get him passable value. However a couple of guys that I always compared him to (Carlos Gomez and Austin Jackson) showed K improvement eventually and became very valuable CF's. Don't know if now is the time to bring Gose up or not it is time that this team have to start looking at where this team might be next year...without giving the appearance that they are deserting the plan (or what they thought was a plan)
