Love the deal for Atlanta. Kimbrel in that Petco should be illegal though. I'm guessing that Quentin was DFA'd as a favour to him, when he signed in San Diego he said it was the only city he'd play for.

I'm coming around. Jays have been known to make knee jerk transactions when it comes to relievers. I think his leash is short than all of them...two bad outings in a row and the "Clearly Rushed" one will be in the minors.
-
6 rookies have come north with the team...most of them drawn polarizing responses from the board. I think we need some documentation. Predict their fWAR for the season and PA's for hitters, IPs for pitchers. Feel free to include any other stats/numbers you wish. Pitchers Norris 182 IP - 2.5 fWAR Sanchez 61 IP - 0.2 fWAR (okay start...bad run in May) Castro 44 IP - 0.2 fWAR Osuna 12 IP - -0.2 fWAR Batters Travis 470 PA - 1.1 fWAR Pompey 155 PA - 0 fWAR (70 wRC...positive defense) Total - 3.8. My gut feel is to go higher on Norris but tempering my expectations.

Buck and Pat always blow the opposing pitchers at the start of the game. They are barely talking about him at all -

No new GDT. First game since early Spring I've had a chance to watch. -
Would be great for someone to do some research into recovery of velocity/results upon return, in relation to the month the pitcher has surgery. I'd think there is some benefit to having it in October.
-
as much as that was a great deal for me, I'm glad that I am old and can't remember the early deals I was offered for Pujols that I turned down cause I thought my team was a contender back in year one. I know there were a lot of offers.
-
The guy has a career .355 slugging percentage, and says he never takes any extra batting practice beyond what's required of him by the team. Nine career HR's in 265 PA's. His numbers aren't much different than Alcantara last year...and much better than Barney
-
Throw Archie Bradley's bad mechanics into all of this he is what I got for the throw-in on the Dinger deal.

Got to keep the hype machine going. -
Van Slyke in for all LHP's (Crawford usually the odd man out is my guess) but I also can see the F.O. convincing them to make sure he gets 350 PAs. I also can see them getting Turner 250 PA's at least.

Because you are court ordered to stay away from white women? Seriously though, he looked a lot like many of the dykes I've played slo pitch with in that first pic.

How excited should we be about VGJ? Scouting of 16 year old kids has a very shaky history. All the comments are just my opinions based on stats. 1. Nomar Mazara 2011 OF Rangers 16 Dominican Republic $4.95 million Made it to AA as a 19 year old. and jumped up to the #87 prospect by BA. KRate going in the right direction 2. Jairo Beras 2012 OF Rangers 17 Dominican Republic $4.5 million Undetermined age earned him a 1 year suspension, then broke his Hamate bone early in his first pro season 6'6" CF with power potential. But .647 OPS 31% KRate at LowA isn't a great start. He'll need a Mazara type improvement. 3. Michael Ynoa 2008 RHP Athletics 16 Dominican Republic $4.25 million BA jumped the gun and ranked him #54 in 2008. Lost 2 full seasons to injury 2009 and 2011. Is now a 22 year old in HighA and has pitched 161 innings in his 6 pro seasons. Did strike out 64 in 45 innings this year and was the other piece going to the White Sox as part of the Smarty deal. 4. Ronald Guzman 2011 OF Rangers 16 Dominican Republic $3.45 million 19 Year old 1B repeating LowA to a .613 OPS. Time to maybe think this one isn't working out. 5. Miguel Sano 2009 SS Twins 16 Dominican Republic $3.15 million Has ranked in the BA top 100 for 6 straight years (Which I think is a record for appearances on that list), including 4 straight in the top 20 and sitting at 13 this season after missing the entire 2014 season. I'm not as high on him as some...but tough to bet against his kind of power. 6. Gilbert Lara 2014 SS Brewers 16 Dominican Republic $3.0975 million #6 prospect on BA's 2014 international prospect list. Brewers paid him the most. No pro league info yet. T-7. Dermis Garcia 2014 SS Yankees 16 Dominican Republic $3 million #9 prospect on BA's 2014 international prospect list. Yankees paid him 2nd most. No pro league info yet. T-7. Luis Heredia 2010 RHP Pirates 16 Mexico $3 million Pre-Mature BA ranked him #78 after the 2012 season. Repeating Low A at 19 last year he walked 33 and struck out 43 in 89 innings. Keeps gaining weight...fastball speed is getting slower T-7. Elier Hernandez 2011 OF Royals 16 Dominican Republic $3 million 19 year old in Low A with a sub .300 OBP and shaky corner OF defense. T-7. Gary Sanchez 2009 C Yankees 16 Dominican Republic $3 million After 4 years on BA's top 100 list, Sanchez dropped off this year. On the Yankees 40 man still and will be their AAA catcher after a full season at AA. His power has never converted to HR's. I watched him in Erie and he killed BP...which is his M.O. Great player who just doesn't give a damn. 11. Adrian Rondon 2014 SS Rays 16 Dominican Republic $2.95 million The number 1 prospect in 2014, can't miss, sure thing. Best SS ever. Okay just my Rays bias. No pro information. T-12. Adonys Cardona 2010 RHP Blue Jays 16 Venezuela $2.8 million The pitcher that made me continually made me look stupid by ranking him in front of Osuna. Is it fair to call a 20 year a bust...well I am. T-12. Eloy Jimenez 2013 OF Cubs 16 Dominican Republic $2.8 million While certainly still in the too early to tell category, 150 PA's in the AZL at 17 with a .260 OBP isn't great. 14. Ariel Ovando 2010 OF Astros 16 Dominican Republic $2.6 million Another f*** off go to hell player for me. I picked him in several Dynasty pools and even traded for him in a keeper pool with an MiLB aspect. Now 20 and made it back to rookie ball last year where he put up a .237/.287/.289 line. Now in the Cubs org. 15. Rafael Rodriguez 2008 OF Giants 16 Dominican Republic $2.55 million 6 minor league seasons. best thing that can be said about him is that he doesn't strike out that much. Now 22 still in A ball and having no success. T-16. Yorman Rodriguez 2008 OF Reds 16 Venezuela $2.5 million Made it to the Bigs with a September call up last year. Still just 21...but he's been nothing better than average with the bat in his 2400 minor league PA's. Still a freak athlete with a huge arm. Will find jobs through waiver claims for many years because of that but 4th OF appears to be his ceiling now. T-16. Victor Sanchez 2011 RHP Mariners 16 Venezuela $2.5 million 125 innings in AA as a 19 year old, sounds good. But he's still got a pretty low ceiling, but physical specimens (he doesn't look like a pitcher) who can pound the bottom half of the zone can carve out a career. 17. Wily Mo Pena 1999 OF Yankees 17 Dominican Republic $2.44 million One of the first bonus babies. 1800 PA's of replacement level ball in the bigs over 7 seasons. Had a couple good seasons in Japan. 18. Joel Guzman 2001 SS Dodgers 16 Dominican Republic $2.255 million 62 major league PA's. retired from the Mexican league in 2013. T-19. Nelson Gomez 2014 3B Yankees 16 Dominican Republic $2.25 million #6 prospect on BA's 2014 list. T-19. Byung-Hyun Kim 1999 RHP Diamondbacks 20 South Korea $2.25 million 11.3 fWAR for his career. Making him the second most success player on this list to date. T-22. Phillips Castillo 2010 OF Mariners 16 Dominican Republic $2.2 million 20 now...still hasn't made it to full season ball. Not much hope here. T-22. Renato Nunez 2010 3B Athletics 16 Venezuela $2.2 million Had a breakout season with 60 XBHs last season. Now has to prove he can do it away from the Cal League. Still has a great swing, will never hit a prospect list cause he's not athletic, and makes more errors than any 3B in the minors. T-22. Chin-Hui Tsao 1999 RHP Rockies 18 Taiwan $2.2 million -0.4 career fWAR 25. Angel Villalona 2006 3B Giants 16 Dominican Republic $2.1 million Oops BA did it again...ranked him 33 in 08 and 44 in 09, but in this case it's tough to say they truly blew it...he lost 3 years after a murder charge. He came back out of shape but put up a .927 OPS in the DSL when he was released. Just hasn't had any real success since his return to the U.S. I'm actually rooting for him. Who doesn't like to see a murderer who paid his way out of his charges be a success. 26. Tzu-Wei Lin 2012 SS Red Sox 18 Taiwan $2.05 million Ceiling is a Ryan Goins with lesser defense. T-27. Juan De Leon 2014 OF Yankees 16 Dominican Republic $2 million #2 BA International prospect from the 2014 class. T-27. Juan Duran 2008 OF Reds 16 Dominican Republic $2 million If he sticks around long enough he has a shot at breaking the minor league strikeout record. 33.7% K rate over 7 seasons. T-27. Guillermo Pimentel 2009 OF Mariners 16 Dominican Republic $2 million Left Fielder who strikes out almost 30% of the time. T-27. Adalberto Mondesi 2011 SS Royals 16 Dominican Republic $2 million The change to his Daddy's name hasn't helped his bat. Age to level...blah blah blah a .256 OBP takes away everything. T-27. Adys Portillo 2008 RHP Padres 16 Venezuela $2 million Hard thrower...now a bullpen guy. Had his best K season out of the pen last year...but still walked way too many. 32. Jose Vinicio 2009 SS Red Sox 16 Dominican Republic $1.95 million Defensive specialist. No power at all. 33. Jose Leal 2011 OF Mariners 16 Venezuela $1.925 million Made it to short season Appalachian League last year. Still has no real experience...and is considered a non prospect already. 34. Miguel Cabrera 1999 SS Marlins 16 Venezuela $1.9 million BUST...only 58.6 fWAR 35. Brayan Hernandez 2014 OF Mariners 16 Venezuela $1.85 million #3 2014 prospect. T-36. Jose Almonte 2013 OF Rangers 16 Dominican Republic $1.8 million played as a 17 year old in the AZL league this year. 171 PA's .453 OPS. Not a good start. T-36. Anderson Espinoza 2014 RHP Red Sox 16 Venezuela $1.8 million #4 International prospect BA 2014 37. Amed Rosario 2012 SS Mets 16 Dominican Republic $1.75 million #98 on the BA top prospect list this year. Short season Brooklyn as an 18 year...putting up better than league average numbers. Makes okay contact but doesn't have a lot of power. 38. Gleyber Torres 2013 SS Cubs 16 Venezuela $1.7 million Looked above average in the Arizona Fall League as a 17 year old this year. He may actually fly under the radar being in Cubs org as a middle infielder. He's a guy that could make top 50 by mid season if he plays full season. 39. Jesus Montero 2006 C Yankees 16 Venezuela $1.65 million I loved Jesus. I thought it was a huge win trade for the Mariners. Now Boxy takes the wheel...there isn't enough room for 2 of us to love Jesus. 40. Jen-Ho Tseng 2013 RHP Cubs 18 Taiwan $1.625 million He's one of those guys that isn't going to wow prospect hounds. But he's got 3 average pitches and walks no one (15 walks in 105 IP in Low A). He's a Cubs prospect so I naturally love him. Honestly I expected this list to have way more success, as I've always been a big International prospect advocate. $102 Million spent. It's got 3 guys still on the top 100 prospects list. Another 10 or so that it's too early to tell. 1 average pitcher...and one superstar hitter.

Even the biggest detractor of AA will say this...a great off-season.

Sorry if this was already posted. Fans were upset over The A's having a Pride night so Sean Doolittle's girlfriend offers to buy any tickets fans don't want and is donating them to LGBT youth.

ZIPS quite likes Doubrant this year (1.3 fWAR over 128 innings), his ERA has has been 50 points higher than his FIP for his career. Not huge split issues...looks like an okay depth move.
