hanton Old-Timey Member Posted May 10 Posted May 10 that wasn't even a full crow hop, great catch off the long hop by Valenzuela

It's such a Jays thing to do. Depends. I think the Jays could manage both Kirk and Valenzuela on the MLB roster and still find enough playing time and ABs for both. They had success doing that before with the Kirk/Jansen setup. Heiny’s season last year feels more like a mirage than something you can count on repeating. We’re probably not seeing that level of offensive production and defensive value from him again, especially at 35. I think his time in Toronto is likely coming to a close.

Or, if we want to get a little more optimistic, maybe there’s a version of this where Barger turns into the next Shawn Green 😅 That’s probably the dream scenario, but the raw power and upside are definitely interesting.

They could probably get something for him from a team desperate for a backup Catcher. Think Venezuela has done enough to keep the backup spot.

If he's actually good he will get more playing time in the future. Not like he's a top 10 prospect in baseball or anything. The other issue is if you keep Pinango, you have a glut of lefty outfielders, which creates matchup issues. But they are going to have the same problem when Lukes comes back. Of course, it's a nice problem to have if everyone is hitting well. You would rather have to choose between hot hitters than cold.

Carpenter at the plate with the defense/arm/versatility would be an amazing outcome. jaysblue 1
