Munoz wasn’t shaky last year, and Bednar is coming off a 2-WAR season. While Bednar has looked a little shaky at times, he really hasn’t been that bad beyond the high walk rate and 4.15 ERA. The strikeout numbers, FIP, and WAR still suggest he’s been fine overall. Hoffman is the one who looked shaky for pretty much all of last season in the closer’s role, and it’s fair to wonder whether Game 7 last year has had more of a lingering effect than people want to admit. I still think he can be an effective arm for the Jays, just not necessarily in the ninth inning. His 2023 and 2024 seasons with the Phillies show a very different version of the pitcher. His 2025 numbers are pretty much the same as his numbers with the Phillies, with the only real change being… an extremely ballooned homerun rate. Not sure why exactly that’s happening but that’s the reason he’s stunk jaysblue 1

He reiterated that Hoffman is the closer and stated his support for him multiple times, as he has in the past. Schneider is a real ship Captain. hanton 1

Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted yesterday at 01:35 PM Posted yesterday at 01:35 PM What's Schneider doing wrong here? lol... he isn't going to throw him under the bus, nor is he going to say anything about the situation immediately following an L like that. He's just a mediator and clubhouse boss man, these decisions come from higher than his pay grade, I'm sure it's being discussed with the staff and FO, but he ain't sayin' s*** after that game. hanton Old-Timey Member Posted yesterday at 02:35 PM Posted yesterday at 02:35 PM maybe try and change his pitches around, I haven't checked but is his FB getting hit? or more on his breaking pitches? none this matters though if he can't throw strikes

He's been really good under the hood, just has blown up spectacularly at the wrong times so far, obviously as the closer.

It's been a struggle, but there are still indicators to suggest he's not completely useless. Stuff+ is one of them, so your dig at that remains stupid. Heaven forbid a fan of the Blue Jays tries to find a bright spot in what's been a hellish start to the season. All you try to do is sh*t on anyone who shows optimism, or who tries to use more advanced metrics to better understand what might be happening (likely because you don't understand them very well). That's kind of you're not well liked around here. That said, you suggesting you prefer large sample sizes and some rational approach to judging players might be the funniest thing you've ever said on this site. It illustrates your complete lack of self awareness. Spanky__99 1

Keeping him in that role without being flexible of trying him in other spots seems weird but maybe they'll start doing that going forward so lets see. You guys come off as fakes who compliment guys while theyre on the Jays but then express your true opinions once they leave the team. Its what people who are paid by the franchise do, not randoms on a message board lol.

And FWIW - complimenting players on your favourite team seems like a perfectly logical thing to do.

For example, i want Varland to get a shot at closing because hes been good. It just comes at the expense of someone whos been horrible, and of course thats what you focus on when 99% of the fanbase feels the same lol.
