Joltin Joe Verified Member Posted February 27 Posted February 27 What do you think of MLB using the ABS this season? I think it's great. Removes umpire error. Only takes a few seconds to get clear cut result. Over the years, I can't count how many bad balls and strikes I've seen called. Stangstag 1
mphenhef Verified Member Posted February 27 Posted February 27 It's good but I foresee myself throwing something at my TV the tenth time we are out of challenges in the first inning because Vlad challenged two balls that were 6 inches outside. G-Snarls and JaysAllMighty 2

I don't think that will be much of a problem. The practice they are all getting in ST with this and the rules laid down by management about who can challenge, what counts and situations you can challenge in etc... i doubt the 1st inning will be very high on the list of important situtations. Kirk will probably have the green light to do whatever he wants since he's a wizard. Spanky__99 1

Kirk will probably have the green light to do whatever he wants since he's a wizard. Schneider gets the green light on the hitters side... 1) Davis Schneider -- the best batter at winning challenges By the end of the 2025 season, Schneider was a key player for the Blue Jays on their run to the American League pennant. But early in the year, he was down in Triple-A -- where he showed he had a big league eye at the plate. Schneider challenged 12 calls, and won 10 of those challenges. His 83% challenge win rate was the highest of 169 batters with at least 10 challenges at the Triple-A level in 2025. Schneider was particularly good at challenging strike calls off the outside edge of the plate, which included reversing five would-be strikeouts. Schneider stands out for his plate discipline even among big league hitters. His 20.9% chase rate ranked inside the top 10% of hitters who saw as many out-of-zone pitches as he did, and his 15.9% walk rate was tied for fifth-best out of 348 hitters with at least 200 plate appearances. That plate discipline skill and sense of the strike zone appears to have translated over to challenging. John_Havok and Joltin Joe 2
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Its great for us because Kirk seems to be amazing at identifying strikes and balls that could give us a leg up on competition. As long as we avoid giving our dumber players those powers, we should be golden.
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Hopefully the Jays: Never let a pitcher challenge. Hard rule against this. Quickly identify who is good at challenging and who is not, so they can red light / green light dudes. It really could be a notable value boost for players with good eyes. I wonder how it will translate to run values / WAR. Spanky__99 1
