Leo Morgenstern Jays Centre Editor Posted January 15 Posted January 15 On Wednesday, ESPN's Jeff Passan told Sportsnet Central that the Blue Jays "have really been the only team that has shown the willingness to go as deep as 10 years, potentially," on a contract for top free agent Kyle Tucker. ESPN had previously reported that the Jays made "a long-term offer" to Tucker, and Passan's latest comments offer a bit more insight into what "long-term" could mean. The Mets, likely Tucker's other top suitor, seem to prefer a shorter-term deal. Most recently, the New York Post's Mike Puma reported that the Mets had "a four-year offer on the table" for Tucker. While Tucker's free agency has been a slow-moving process to this point, Passan mentioned that the All-Star outfielder could be ready to sign by the end of this week. Then, this morning, the New York Post's Jon Heyman reported that Tucker could sign "as soon as today." Featured image courtesy of David Banks, Imagn Images. View full rumor
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Woof. No thanks. Pursuing Tucker is fine and all, but I really don't want him for a decade. I think his bat probably ages just fine, but he's not working with the strongest defensive toolset, and probably won't age that well overall.

harvey16 Verified Member Posted January 15 Posted January 15 10 years is a long time and would really need to be a much lower AAV or have a ton of deferred money on such a risky deal. 10/$325M would be like a max offer IMO.
Leo Morgenstern Jays Centre Editor Posted January 15 Author Posted January 15 Can't say I want Tucker into his late 30s either. But at the same time, I can very much understand why the Jays would rather do a longer deal with a lower luxury tax hit, considering where their CBT payroll is at right now. abola2121 1

I'm less of a Twins fan by the day, and becoming more of a general baseball fan. Being immersed in many team forums over the past few years has changed how I approach the sport a lot. I might be a bigger Brewers fan than Twins fan at this point. JaysAllMighty 1
