Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2024 Posted July 29, 2024 The Jays needed a SS (Bo injury) and added DeJong. The Mariners needed a 1B and added Turner. It is literally the same caliber of trade LOL. Yeah fair, DeJong just had the worst stretch of his career for 3 weeks as a BJ. I think we would have all gladly taken what he’s doing this year, which is more what Atkins probably expected when he acquired him.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2024 Posted July 29, 2024 Hey dumbo, I'm responding to someone who is trying to make the argument that the Mariners are making mountain-moving offensive acquisitions in order to "not waste their elite pitching". Where the f*** did I say, Mountain Moving?? Keep BS out of my quotes. I said they are doing what they need to do to not waste the pitching staff.. Turner coupled with other moves. Even if Turner is just a PH to go to down the stretch or in the playoffs, I would rather his veteran experience and his Dodger heroism than some fnnn scrub or Calvin Biggio and Espinal. And it was all in response to someone calling Dipoto an idiot or something for taking money. You make an fnnnn effort when you are where the Mariners are and f*** the additional $$.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2024 Posted July 29, 2024 Maybe if we had a stronger farm we could have acquired someone of note without mortgaging our future. If the team had a stronger system they could have acquire Soto in the offseason as well so we are fully in agreement. I recall it was reported that asking prices at the deadline for completely unreasonable and that was the primary reason nobody of note was moved. It seems as though Atkins is not the type to overpay in trade and may be a tad too conservative to push in all of his chips at the deadline.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2024 Posted July 29, 2024 Maybe if we had a stronger farm we could have acquired someone of note without mortgaging our future. Yeah exactly. IDK how you could not like this move for the Mariners, Turner instantly becomes one of their best hitters. It is always worth improving your roster at the deadline if you are in the hunt, even in seemingly minor ways. Someone like Turner could very easily go on a heater for 2 weeks during the playoffs as he has done before.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2024 Posted July 29, 2024 Mariners are desperate AF! Lmao:cool:

Sick of these other guys pulling out strawman after strawman to defend their ******** stupid takes.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2024 Posted July 29, 2024 Oh wow, they added Arozarena who is having his worst hitting season ever. You realize that he is a 110 wRC+ hitter this year, right? If they cared as much as you are implying, why didn't they pony up more and trade for Isaac Paredes instead? You know, the far superior Rays hitter who was also available? You realize they have a team wRC+ of 95 this year, right?
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2024 Posted July 29, 2024 Shouldn't you be busy finishing the page in your coloring book? He can’t because you ate all the crayons

And I am telling you that they are NOT doing what they need to do. Their offense is absolutely horrific. Adding Turner is pure desperation. You never answered me: why didn't they ball-up and acquire Parades instead of Arozarena? THAT would be a difference-maker. Instead they are hoping that Arozarena who is hitting .215 is going to bounce back? Their offense is littered with .220 hitters already. You're going on about how they are adding "proven playoff hitters" and yet they may not even make the playoffs.

metafour Verified Member Posted July 29, 2024 Posted July 29, 2024 You realize they have a team wRC+ of 95 this year, right? Correct, they are terrible. Which means they need MUCH MORE than Arozarena and his 110 wRC+ little boy. So obviously the big acquisition of Justin Turner is a game-changer. Dipoto really not wasting that pitching staff trollolol. Maybe we can ship them George Springer next? Another proven playoff hitter for the ALL-IN Mariners!

You're going on about how they are adding "proven playoff hitters" and yet they may not even make the playoffs. The Mariners are still looking to add another bat. The deadline is not over yet. Lets see what they do by the deadline. They have already improved from a week ago, even with the addition of Locklear once he gets his sea legs. You also have no idea if they tried for Parades, or maybe the Mariners scouts see something or saw something. Based on their farm system for years, they are pretty damn good at scouting. Let's see what happens. They are not sitting on their hands, that's for sure.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2024 Posted July 29, 2024 Why are people complaining and even bringing up last year's deadline? There's no point, this was a nice little move if the money is correct.

His OPS by month: April - .461 May - .699 June - .893 July .910 wRC+ April - 5 May - 104 June - 163 July - 160 You shouldn't discount what he brings to the table
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2024 Posted July 29, 2024 Schreck had a top 10 wRC+ in A+ before getting moved up to AA. Old for the level, but there’s atleast something there. I’m surprised we’re not eating some of Turners salary for this type of return.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 29, 2024 Posted July 29, 2024 Taking the whole salary is insane Amazing Mariners not good negotiators
