BTS Community Moderator Posted June 8, 2024 Posted June 8, 2024 It’s kind of hilarious that the team that was built around defense is going to be playing Vlad at 3B and Horwitz at 2B. Desperation is a stinky cologne. They’re clearly panicking

But I doubt they expected them to get worse, bring Bo both them and also have Turner fall apart in the 2nd month of the season.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2024 Posted June 8, 2024 Yeah, if the Jays sign JDM and Teo instead of all those other guys this offense would be "fixed" for sure. We'd be right up there with the Orioles for the 1st wild card. Who knows? Maybe the lineup overall doesn't struggle as much with bats like Teo and JDM in it. As well, maybe the Jays win some of those close games they lost. Instead of losing 2-1 last night, maybe the Jays win 3-1 or 4-2. I know its all hindsight. Though having Teo in LF and JDM at DH would have made this lineup better overall. Not sure they would be holding WC1 but maybe they're around 35 wins and a couple of games above .500 which would have them sitting nicely in the WC3 spot. As well, they would be in a better position to add to the roster come trade deadline. Lastly, this team actually might have been more watchable.

Yes it's possible, I mean now that we can hand pick the off season free agent bats that are performing of course it would have improved the offense (but not fixed it), but remember many people wanted them to get a guy like Soler too who has not performed, which is why no one is using him as an example for improvement right now, and a month ago nobody was complaining about the Turner signing either. And yeah, the offense is probably better and maybe we win that game last night, but maybe we lose a game earlier in the season because IKF isn't here to make a key play at 3rd or maybe Teo boots a play in LF because Varsho isn't out there because he's in CF instead of KK? This is why I used fWAR as my example earlier when comparing IKF/Turner/Vogelbach/KK vs. Teo/JDM and let's not forget I'm using hindsight to hand pick Teo and JDM here as successful examples of off season free agent bats when it could have just as easily been one that has fallen flat.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2024 Posted June 8, 2024 I don’t really get the “just need to get in philosophy” with this years team. Like there’s no real surprise a guy like last night can neutralize the offense. Possibly battling with a handful of other bad teams for that W3 would likely just mean we limp along again next year Of course you don’t, you’re dumb

They gravely overestimated the capabilities of this lineup for the 2nd year in a row.

When they didn’t produce enough drafting and development talent we became a high payroll FA hunting and signing team. Then we became the run prevention expensive old team. Now D focus is out the window for more offence. The most appropriate and effective pivot now would be firing Ross into the sun.

Management is effectively throwing s*** at the wall and hoping something sticks. Atkins keeps playing it cool for the media, but in reality he's off script and getting reckless trying to save his job. I don't think he'll be fired before the offseason, but I hope Shapiro has the sense to tie his hands as far as trades go. There should be no additions, and pending FAs should be sold.

You just keep swerving from one extreme to another.
