BTS Community Moderator Posted May 18, 2024 Posted May 18, 2024 Team “not panicking” has been REAL quiet these days. I'm not sure team not panicking can have anyone left after hearing Ross talk impotently about how they're encouraged because they're working deep counts and putting stress on pitchers. I appreciate unbridled fan optimism, but this is an unadulterated clusterf***.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2024 Posted May 18, 2024 6 games under 0.500 and -49. It's over. After today they have to play .600 ball for remaining games to get the last wildcard. Even if they have a good streak against CHISOX thats a tall order in the 118 left.

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2024 Author Posted May 18, 2024 Team “not panicking” has been REAL quiet these days. I think Shatkins will be the last one left, even Term knows at this point

baconpancakes Verified Member Posted May 18, 2024 Posted May 18, 2024 Did buddy actually use Pearson in a 4-3 game? Does John Schneider even watch baseball??? I would love for the Pearson experiment to end, this has been going on for YEARS now. Do they think he will just magically become good? I rooted for the guy for the first few years, now he is just taking up room. Just because he pulled one out of his ass last night, doesnt mean you ignore every previous stat.

Even if they have a good streak against CHISOX thats a tall order in the 118 left. Would be one thing if they were like +10 in run differential and had just had an uncharacteristic amount of pen meltdowns or something. But this team is getting their asses handed to them. Springer looks cooked, and I have no idea what Bo is even doing out there. And their GM is out there talking about how they're getting deep into counts.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2024 Posted May 18, 2024 I think Shatkins will be the last one left, even Term knows at this point Term is a schtick. Keep telling you guys that. He’s being Roger from American Dad Shatkims will definitely be the last one to fall. Spanky will always flip flor back and forth, bc it’s Spanky… whatever happened to drunk Spanky? I feel like maybe him and Jim at some point were given the bjmb estogen pills they seem to slip people to bring them in to the herd.

Act or not this team is impossible to defend at this point unless you’re a Smurf
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2024 Posted May 18, 2024 Haven't seen this much s***ing on the team (by the mainstream media and now Keegan) in a while, changes are coming

They have to go 24 wins over .500 in the remaining games of the season TO GET THE LAST WILDCARD (projected 90 at the moment). Is there anyone left who really sees that happening? And the GM is talking about "deep counts". Not even real life.
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2024 Posted May 18, 2024 I mean he is directly calling out Atkins
glory Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2024 Posted May 18, 2024 6 games under 0.500 and -49. It's over. It’s incredible how similar this season (and the off season leading up to it) has been to 2017. They’ll even repeat the biggest mistake they made in 2017 which was not starting the rebuild at the deadline. I’m legit terrified of what the Jays get back for Kikuchi, Jansen, Garcia, etc.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2024 Posted May 18, 2024 Brownie might stay too, but he knows he wants to jump off Haven't even seen Brownie post here the last couple of days lol. He probably goes down with the Atkins ship till the very end.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2024 Posted May 18, 2024 I think Shatkins will be the last one left, even Term knows at this point Term just loves to troll but he's the most rational of them at least and likely comes to terms that it's over with this front office. Brownie and Shatkins probably still think Atkins is one of the best GM's in baseball. They won't ever wave the white flag and admit defeat. Spanky will jump ship and "lol" his way onto the bandwagon.

I’m legit terrified of what the Jays get back for Kikuchi, Jansen, Garcia, etc. Reminds me a bit of 2013 too. Went into that season Vegas favorites to win the world series. We started slowly and we kept saying "its early" waiting for it to finally get rolling...the wheels fell off and it never did. Finished with 74 W's. Don't want this FO anywhere near this deadline or off season half pregnant and hanging on - reaping Happ, Stro & JD hauls.
5ToolPhenom Verified Member Posted May 19, 2024 Posted May 19, 2024 Ump totally took the bat from Jansen’s hands there. f***er. Definitely gonna be the #1 worst call of the game on the ump scorecard due to the situation He called a pitch in that exact location a strike to Arozarena when he was in a clutch position too a couple innings earlier.
5ToolPhenom Verified Member Posted May 19, 2024 Posted May 19, 2024 Did buddy actually use Pearson in a 4-3 game? Does John Schneider even watch baseball??? I thought it was reported that Schneider doesn't decide who to use and when in the bullpen?

And the GM is talking about "deep counts". Not even real life. I think Atkins basically in more or less words said they have a small Window which you would think is June 01 based on the stats you just indicated! Can we see the Jays go 11 wins in next 13 days, probably not more like 5-6. At which point management will be on the phone deciding their strategy for July 31st deadline but the assets of Berios, Gausman could be moved sooner as these guys are not true deadline trade deals. I suspect 2-3 teams will engage the Jays for both those players and two be honest if Atkins goes after the ******** big haul of 3-4 prospects for each one that is the wrong approach! You get a team's #1 prospect and #2 prospect that will be in the lineup next year or this year! Both those guys are #1 pitcher this year with 3-4 years left on Berios and 2 years left on Gausman. I can see Orioles, Royals, Phillies, Braves, and Dodgers right now as best fit for both of these guys and they probably would trade for both as an investment beyond one year and championship run. I suspect June 21 to July 07 both these guys are traded as these teams would benefit with both players in their lineups sooner than later. If Atkins mis-steps, goes for big prospect hauls with nothing in lineup next year he is fired along with Sharpiro by Rogers Board of Directors.
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2024 Posted May 19, 2024 I thought it was reported that Schneider doesn't decide who to use and when in the bullpen? JS is making the call but it's based on several factors like pitcher availability, work load, the pre-game reports...etc
5ToolPhenom Verified Member Posted May 19, 2024 Posted May 19, 2024 I’d really love to know if Pearson is higher on the organizational depth chart than Richards, or if John made that decision on his own. Anyone with eyes and half a brain can see Pearson has been dogshit since his recall from AAA, and most of his career for that matter. The clear path was Richards > Garcia > Romano for the last 3 innings. But Romano probably would have blown it in the 9th anyways. This is something that I've been confused about too. I've been a baseball fan for over 30 years but credible people have told me over the past couple of years that Schneider doesn't actually make any bullpen decisions and that that kind of thing is decided from an analytics department ahead of time and essentially Schneider is following a script in regards for who to put in and when. To me, that just sounds insane. At that point I don't see what a purpose of a manager even is? May as well just hire a psychiatrist to manage the clubhouse or someone who's trained in getting the best results out of 26 people.
5ToolPhenom Verified Member Posted May 19, 2024 Posted May 19, 2024 JS is making the call but it's based on several factors like pitcher availability, work load, the pre-game reports...etc Well credible people on this forum have reported otherwise and I've read conflicting things in the media about this, so I'm not sure that's the case.
5ToolPhenom Verified Member Posted May 19, 2024 Posted May 19, 2024 We have gone from "This isn't the try league" to: "We worked some good counts" "We made the other pitchers work" "A lot of work is going on behind the scenes" "We were in on some guys in the off season and looked at some trades" "We made some great draft picks but they just haven't worked out" It's truly obnoxious. But as I think it was you who pointed out on this forum a couple of days ago, GM/manager/player statements to the media in 2024 are beyond pointless and contrived. Nobody has anything authentic to say anymore and in the situation that a player actually does express how he feels, it gets dealt with in harsh terms. Like Pillar getting cut from the WS for example. So I don't even pay attention to it anymore. It's a complete waste of time.
5ToolPhenom Verified Member Posted May 19, 2024 Posted May 19, 2024 6 games under 0.500 and -49. It's over. Yeah man, what a joke. Didn't even take until mid May before they were all but out of it:eek:

I'm not disagreeing. JS gets a report during a pre-game assembly that essentially gives him the game plan for the day (the analytics). It's what went into the decision to pull Berrios for Kikuchi, it's not a baseball move based on what's happening on the field.
