Alek Manoah makes his return today when the Toronto Blue Jays take on the Washington Nationals.

Manoah has struggled mightily since earning a handful of Cy Young votes in 2022. The big righty posted an 8.69 ERA in five spring training starts, though he did fan 12 batters in his last outing. Manoah starts opposite MacKenzie Gore.

After going 2 for 4 with a walk yesterday, Varsho is rewarded by being moved down the order to bat 6th. If only he went zero for four he could have stayed batting second. John Schneider's rules of baseball. Go figure.

Let's hope he has it working today.

Left handed starter on the mound today.

Varsho has reverse splits this season.

Yeah I just looked that up myself. No harm in my view in tweaking the lineup order a little depending on the starter so no big deal as long as the right guys are in the lineup.

Yeah but Schneider just threw in the same top four. Yesterday he found success by changing things up, today....same old, same old. I don't get it.

So Schneider immediately caves after 1 game and goes back to the "great" lineup that has provided practically nothing all year.

As a manager, you cant swing the bat for your players but you can do everything possible to get them motivated/going...

Meaningless sample

No not at all. For him you toss out 2023. Based on projections of 100 ab's you can draw viable conclusions.

Besides....

It's 2024

There are advanced hyper regressed machine learning models than judge him after 50 pitches and project ERA with more accuracy than Bill James

Not for batter platoon splits

Takes hundreds of PAs, multiple seasons

It's thinking like Laika's as to why the Jays are using Swanson in high leverage because of "sample". Let's just totally disregard what common sense has shown us by watching what we see with our eyes lol.

There is a time to be responsive and a time to be thoughtful

Thinking that Varsho is a high level option vs good LHP is just f***ing dumb, no other way to say it

A pitcher you can at least just measure their stuff or command in a tiny sample

And what sample has Vladdy/Bo/Springer shown this year? It's not like we're batting Varsho ahead of Betts/Ohtani/Freeman here.

There’s a time and a place for excuses and reasoning and there’s a time and a place where the pitchforks come out and you push the fairy villagers to the ground and hang some people. Pretty much time for the latter. 3 WC is/has been this teams only saving grace. Would be an objective failure otherwise

I was referring to Laila as a fairy villager in case that wasn’t clear. Sometimes my good digs go unnoticed. I’m often only clever to myself.
