L54 Old-Timey Member Posted March 4, 2024 Posted March 4, 2024 Belly had a 164 wRC+ v. LHP last year. He can also play defense. If the Jays mis-read the market by not signing Chapman, then I think it's fair to suggest the Dodgers also did by signing Teo over Belly. If they didn't want all lefties, they could have just let Heyward leave and signed Duval, Renfroe - or another RH OFer. They signed Heyward very early in the FA season too - which was completely unnecessary for a guy who projects to be a 0.8 WAR player. He just posted 2 WAR in less than 400 AB’s. He would be the Jays best outfielder lol The Dodgers should definitely be taking your advice I agree
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 4, 2024 Posted March 4, 2024 Don't forget about Spanky who cries anytime you say anything bad about the Jays. Very suspicious how all 3 haven't posted. I'm guessing they're working hard on fangraphs trying to justify this offseason lol. I'm away, ya f***ing dingleberry, I wasn't expecting much change from 3 days ago, and it still hasn't happened. Who wouldn't want Chappy at 20M??? I just tell you how stupid you are, meat.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 4, 2024 Posted March 4, 2024 He just posted 2 WAR in less than 400 AB’s. He would be the Jays best outfielder lol The Dodgers should definitely be taking your advice I agree I'm aware that Heyward was great last year - after initially wanting to retire after 2 horrendous years in 2021 and 2022. It was cool to see him have so much success. But, he only projects for 0.8 WAR this year and has a history of following up a good/great year with an absolute stinker. At 34, his baserunning and defense are declining (which was how he provided value when his bat went to s***). If the Jays should have waited out Chapman and not signed IKF/Turner so early, then it's fair to say the Dodgers should have done the same with Teo and Heyward. $32M for guys that project to give them 2.5 WAR isn't very sexy. Point is - even good GM's / Organizations are never going to be perfect in reading the market and optimizing value. CD will come tell me that 100% the Dodgers didn't want Belly. Not sure how he knows that, but maybe it's true, just like it may be true that Chapman told the Jays he wasn't re-signing with them early in the FA period, which explains why Atkins shifted gears. There are all kinds of factors involved in decisions, trades, signings, etc. that we aren't privy to. I choose to be optimistic that Atkins is making good decisions with the information he has at his finger tips. We'll be playoff contenders for the 5th straight season and have been favored to win in the matchups we've had more often than not, so I think he's earned some respect. Of course others believe the GM has a lot of control over who wins in the playoffs, so they'll suggest he hasn't, because 0 playoff wins.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 4, 2024 Posted March 4, 2024 The factors are: The FO has not built a solid enough farm to go out and get a Soto, a Glasnow, or get one of the Red's surplus IF that would have fit the bill. Or to be aggressive and get Suarez at 3b, early because AZ looked at the market and said that was the best play. I am not sure what line of work you are in. I know I can't continue to give excuses and tell my boss's that I can't deliver results because I didn't set my self up for continued success after 7 years and I left myself with one option and it was not a good one. It is a results oriented business for the fans anyway. The "factors", are factors all other teams have to account for. Agreed CD, Atkins isn't exempt from criticism.

You’re a f***ing Patsy lmao You have no problem calling people names on here but the second someone calls you one big red turns into the wambulance Stfu Spanky. Seriously Hurl thinks people having to wait to make their first post will drive away traffic, I would argue Spanky does enough of that himself
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 4, 2024 Posted March 4, 2024 I think IKF is probably going to get into 140-150 games. If Vogelbach makes the team I see Turner starting a fair amount of games at either 2B or 3B and getting 3 at bats before IKF subs in defensively. I still feel pretty good about this team going into 2024. I think a healthy Jansen, Kirk’s adjustments in the second half and Guerrero, Springer and Varsho regressing positively is what the team needs to bank on. If Guerrero and one of the others doesn’t bounce back offensively I don’t think any one signing other than Ohtani actually helps this team. This is the gist of it.

Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 4, 2024 Posted March 4, 2024 Say anything critical about the Leafs, it's 100x worse haha. Hurrrrr.....

Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 4, 2024 Posted March 4, 2024 Its a 1 year deal though. Versus being locked into 3 years of Bellinger if he’s s*** again Yeah, that contract has huge risk.

They have no MLB ready prospects on the bump that I can see. Josh Winckowski might start 15 games for them. Brandon Walter probably throws 100 innings, with an ERA over 6.

Doubt they even entertain that though, they may as well resign themselves to 5th and sign a scrap heap guy like Vince Velasquez
