Based on what I've read about Chapman's connections to multiple current members of the Giants organization, plus KingSarcasm already said Jays won't be bringing Chapman back and he hasn't missed yet, I would be shocked if Chapman doesn't sign with San Francisco.

I posted this on January 8 about Chapman. The smoke has been there for a while.

 

Also Chapman's AAV being only 18M means there wouldn't have been nearly as much AAV clearing required among the names discussed (Garcia/Richards/Espinal/Biggio/Vogelbach) to bring him back and remain under the 2nd threshold.

The IKF signing is ok in a vacuum, but overpaying for both of IKF and KK (when we already have a defense-first CF) is f***ing dumb.

I was always 100% set on the idea that Chapman was gone after 2023 because he would command about 25 mil a year into his late 30s.

 

A 3 year deal for 18 mil a year is a f***ing steal.

 

I have a feeling the team will really miss his presence this year.

Don't forget about Rodriguez. I don't know enough about the guy but he better be an absolute stud at the majors and not spending time at AAA.

 

Teams with that type of financial restrictions should not be spending it here if it means you can't even go get bargain deals at more important positions.

Just a terrible offseason given the failures the last 2 postseasons and the stakes right now. This might be the final year before we have to decide to move on from Bo/Vlad. And this is the best roster they could muster.

The Jays are paying KK, IKF, Turner, and Rodriguez more than Chapman and Soler in 2024. That's crazy. And there's a plethora of vetrin OF options signing for peanuts now that wouldn't have forced the great defensive CF you traded for to play LF again.

 

I really hope we look back on this off season positively, but holy s***, this is bad.
