connorp Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2024 Posted February 19, 2024 Why u gotta make me get sadder lol. If you Venmo Max $50, he may be willing to blow some sunshine up your backside.
MikeM3 Verified Member Posted February 19, 2024 Posted February 19, 2024 Trout was pacing about 6 war last year and had 6 the year before. He broke his hand because he still swings 1000 mph. I'd take Trout way before someone like Bellinger.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2024 Posted February 19, 2024 Trout is getting close to a DH only, to avoid flare-ups of his incurable back condition. I'd take him at 7/260 over Bellinger at 7/200 but it's closer than you might think

There was a reason why the Jays had a separate "Ohtani budget" and while Trout isn't as marketable as Ohtani, you do have to factor stuff like this in.

Trout doesn't come close to Ohtani in name value. He should, but for a lot of reasons he doesn't. His name value is far closer to Bellinger than it is to Ohtani.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2024 Posted February 19, 2024 Anyhow, who really gives a f*** about this signing that is sane. A fatty bat off the bench as a 26th man that rakes, does it really f***ing matter. I doubt these guys make our team aside from a trade for a RHB OF.

Those legion of fans are going to have little impact at the gates, or the local television broadcasts. I don’t see how Ohtani brings so much more value than Trout. You don’t know sheeeettt. Trout and Judge are right there with Ohtani for franchise value

Laika Community Moderator Posted February 20, 2024 Posted February 20, 2024 Baseball is a business and not a simulation. You can’t spit out projected WAR to determine the what Trout is worth. If there’s a tv deal anywhere near the horizon, I bet you Trout for prospects loses you $260m Oh shiiiiiiiiit it's a business!? Since when!!!???

Laika Community Moderator Posted February 20, 2024 Posted February 20, 2024 Kind of a bummer, I was curious to see how good he could be as an old fart throwing 87 mph poo I kind of thought he would be tricky enough to be a solid SP4 doing that
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2024 Posted February 20, 2024 MLB Free Agency is such a disaster. If they aren’t going to do a salary cap they need to put in a salary floor or something. Force some of these teams to spend some money. It’s embarrassing teams like A’s, Pirates, Rays, Reds, ect get away with this s***. These top players should have homes at market value. And they won’t get it because tons of teams refuse to spend money.

Free agency in MLB is a pretty good parallel to western economies though. It works great when you're in the 1% at the very top...but is steadily getting worse for anyone below that.

Penalize teams if they don't spend above the soft floor. Make their draft picks and international budgets worse.

The MLBPA simply doesn't seem to fully understand how much of a drag the luxury tax has been on their prospective earnings. Most teams are treating it like a defacto salary cap, except the players don't get the benefits of more evenly split revenue sharing with the owners, along with a salary floor that forces the el cheapo owners to spend a minimum of money and forcing the owners to finally open the books. It's like they cut off their nose just to spite their faces.

BTS Community Moderator Posted February 20, 2024 Posted February 20, 2024 ST games start in two days and you can still assemble a decent team from the FA pool. 70-75 wins? C - Zunino 1B - Belt 2B - Rosario 3B - Chapman SS - Anderson CF - Bellinger LF - Pham RF - Meadows DH - Martinez Pina/Cron/Duvall/Solano/Rosario Snell Montgomery Loreznen Clevinger German

That possibility along with reports that Rodon is hitting 96 MPH in the spring would combine with a dynamite Yankees rotation if these guys can manage to stay healthy.

A lot of smoke? from what I read, they have a standing offer out for him but haven't had much communication over the past few weeks. And yeah Rodon won't stay healthy

Cole Snell Stroman Rodon Cortes --- Schmidt Would have a real chance to be the best rotation in the league if healthy.

A system like the NBA where there is an even revenue split and a salary floor/cap would actually help the vast majority of players in MLB and only hurt the top 1%. Not sure why that’s such a non starter for the MLBPA. A free market is great for the elite but hurts practically everyone else depending on how owners are feeling in a particular off season. I get they want the Ohtani’s of the world to maximize their value without restrictions but owners are using the current CBT as a cap anyway so it’s not helping the majority of the players they represent.
