o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted September 2, 2023 Posted September 2, 2023 this is on Merrifield though - he's an aggressive baserunner and it's what makes him so dangerous on the basepaths, little to do with the Jays it's not just Whit. the whole team has made dumb decisions running the bases. Most of the mistakes are not stealing, they are taking an extra bag, forgetting the outs, not tracking the ball. I agree with using the team speed, but it needs to be intelligent as well.

Also keep in mind you’re likely only watching Jays games, so you see every mistake they make, not all the mistakes all the other teams make regularly as well. That always makes it seem worse than it is.

It's an organizational issue

o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted September 2, 2023 Posted September 2, 2023 This is why numbers and stats are made available though, to make sure reality matches the eye test, which is very unreliable. Overall, the Jays are much better on the bases than last season. Vlad, Kirk and Belt are the culprits of dragging down the team metrics to where they are, but still much better than last season. I'll agree. I just had the thought and I'm not going looking for the stats at 5am. lol when I get up that thought will be gone KK and WM have brought the steal back into play and Springer has been pretty good as well. Like I said, from my blind eye, it's not the base stealing, the bigger mistakes are trying to stretch out extra bases or just not paying attention. I'll agree on the culprits as well. feels about right. I can remember a couple from Bo as well.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2023 Posted September 2, 2023 Schneiders little legs pumping away. #wheels

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2023 Posted September 2, 2023 That was so not a fair ball. Lol
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2023 Posted September 2, 2023 The ball boy/person down the left field line is getting a workout
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted September 2, 2023 Posted September 2, 2023 add on runs in Colorado are always great. look at that mustache move!
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2023 Posted September 2, 2023 That's right over the outside part of the bag
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2023 Posted September 2, 2023 Fangraphs has us at the 25th worst base running team, estimating we've cost ourselves 10.5 runs. You should probably look at 2023 numbers instead of 2022. I get that it’s still not a net positive value from runs, but it’s better than 2022.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2023 Posted September 2, 2023 That was so not a fair ball. Lol Definitely questionable.

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2023 Posted September 2, 2023 Even the ump is feeling sorry for Vlad by gifting him hits there loll
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2023 Posted September 2, 2023 hoping to see green in the 9th if the score is the same

You can find it here: https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/leaderboard/baserunning It breaks down where the guys get there values from too whether it’s advances, holds or being thrown out To nobodies surprise, the worst offender in baseball this year at being thrown out is Teoscar Hernandez. Vlad is 4th worst
infinitebook Verified Member Posted September 2, 2023 Posted September 2, 2023 Give Chad Green the 9th!
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2023 Posted September 2, 2023 If this score holds, John Schneider may only be able to use six arms tonight.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2023 Posted September 2, 2023 If this score holds, John Schneider may only be able to use six arms tonight. Every W is critical and this pen is going to get blistering leverage innings this month. I struggle to see why Richards is in 5 runs up.
Nursehoneybadger Verified Member Posted September 2, 2023 Posted September 2, 2023 I wouldn't mind seeing Bard shut us out, poor guy had the yips for 7 years
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2023 Posted September 2, 2023 Give Chad Green the 9th! Seems too logical. I expect Romano to still come in lol
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2023 Posted September 2, 2023 Ah my bad, yes we are 22nd this year. And the run value lost is about half as bad. That’s a pretty good improvement one year to the next. If they could stop Rivera from sending guys to die by 20 feet, they might be around even. Kirk will always be negative, Belt will be negative and a Vlad will be negative. Jansen could be negative but is usually a plus or at least average.
