glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 Sportsnet going off with that s***** angle this game Not watching the game but both the Davis Schneider highlights were with the stupid behind the batter camera angle. Thankfully the Jays are out of market for me so when I watch on MLBtv I use the opponent’s feed.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2023 Author Posted August 26, 2023 I really don’t think people here hate Varsho. Maybe trolls did but who gives a f*** about them. People were frustrated by him more than anything. And honestly I think it had a lot more to do with coaches f***ing with his swing and approach in Spring. He looked like a shadow of his former self. Now he’s back to looking dangerous with extra base power like last year. His defence never faltered and for that I respect him not losing confidence. The hate was intense for a while there in May/June. Yeah, some were from new accounts and others were just from dummies like Stottlemeyers Bloody Tampon, plus a few regulars. Some of us knew not to evaluate the deal based on the worst baseball of Varsho's career.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 He will be a 3+ WAR player in CF next season. Agreed The tools are all there He's having a relatively bad season is all
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 Great game Chapman tried to blow it but the pitching and Schneder made sure they won
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 Crazy. I thought he had a chance at the CY Young as a reliever. Jesus you say stupid things a lot.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 100% no thunder and poor situational skills. First 6 weeks of season he was hitting and Vladdy was getting protection in the lineup. Since then Chapman has to be the least clutch player on this team and this has impacted Vladdy significantly in May/June/July with no protection. Chapman’s batting order position of 4-5 has had the single most negative impact than any other player on the team for RISP. So much wrong in this post.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 Just finished watching. Absolutely tremendous job by Garcia getting out of the mess the infield defense created. I think Buck misread his inherited/stranded runner stats on the air a bit but after today's game he's stranded a tremendous 22 out of 25 total inherited runners. He's been really damn good for nearly half the season with a sub 2 ERA/sub 3 FIP and he'll need to move up the pecking order a bit with Swanson's apparent injury. Davis Schneider really deserves more rope to stay in the lineup, he's been a massive difference maker when his name has been penciled into the starting lineup. I'd like to see what he can do with an extended run of starts without yanking him out of the lineup the first time he has a rough game. Ryu has been awesome since coming back from injury. I didn't envision him being this good so soon after Tommy John surgery, it's too bad his defense let him down so badly or he could have stayed in the game quite a bit longer.
Stottlemyres_Bloody_Chin Verified Member Posted August 27, 2023 Posted August 27, 2023 LOL @ everyone assuming Varsho is going to be a good hitter going forward...he's not a the .900 OPS guy he's been for the past month just like he's not the .450 OPS guy that he was the previous month. Look at the overall body of work - he's a .680 ish hitter, which is below expectations. Great OF defence though.
PhillyBlueJay Verified Member Posted August 27, 2023 Posted August 27, 2023 So much wrong in this post. Give me your point of view! Don’t give me ******** WAR of 2.0 because of his defensive runs saved metrics and his batted balls in play at 95 mph or more than his previous years 57% metric because he is swinging for the fences in his free agent year!!! His f***ing worth as a hitter is absolute s*** based on damage created by hits, run driven in, and on base percentage has created very little damage to opponents this season. Since Chapman’s sensational start to the season (May 15 time frame … he’s batted .212/.302/.373 (88 wRC+).

Varsho has a career .715 OPS, and in his 1.5 seasons in Arizona as a full time regular he posted OPS values of .755 and .745. It's entirely possible he returns to that level of production moving forward, he's had one really awful month this season that's really tanked his overall numbers.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2023 Posted August 27, 2023 Jesus you say stupid things a lot. How is that stupid lol. It's happened before and it will happen again. Not like anyone is really running away with in the AL. Whose the favorite in AL Gerrit Cole? Kevin Gausman? He was having an elite Season and was on pace to set the strikeout record for a reliever. If you don't think people would have gave him CY Young votes you're the stupid one lol.

I think this version of Varsho is pretty close to what we will have on our team for the next few years.

Super impressed by Ryu since he came back. It is obvious he really dug down and put the work in while he was injured. Guy is a beast out there right now. Pitching with a lot of confidence.

Hopefully Ryu'a newfound commitment to fitness rubs off on Manoah as he made a very impressive physical transformation during his rehabilitation time
