glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 Springer is a guaranteed DP at this point.
BlueBaller Verified Member Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 It's shocking to me that a guy who batted .230 in the NL is getting shat upon by the AL Beast.
Captain_Obvious Verified Member Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 Amazing swings by fatty Guerrero Jr.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 Springer challenging Vladdy for the GIDP crown.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 KK and Belt for the most part have been full value this season. Props on those short term deals. Aging Springer el blows lately. 3/75 left on that deal.
Blue Jays Lurker 2023 Verified Member Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 Barfsho = Negative 19.9 Base-Out Runs Added Given the bases occupied/out situation, how many runs did the batter or baserunner add in the resulting play. Compared to average, so 0 is average, and above 0 is better than average
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 Apparently people want Springer in more of an RBI spot but he hits into a double play every time in that situation lol
metafour Verified Member Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 What a savvy trade good ol' Ross pulled off for Varsho. I mean, the guy is not old and provided massive value the past two full seasons while running a 99 and 106 wRC+. He was actually a fairly safe player because he provides so much defensive and baseunning value and wasn't dependent on hitting (this is still true as he is still a positive WAR player). Who or what could have predicted that his wRC+ would collapse by 30+ points? He is still hitting the ball hard (Max EV) but his barrel rate has collapsed. He is just completely lost at the plate. Don't BS me and pretend like you "knew" he'd somehow turn into one of the worst hitters in the league at age 27. s*** happens. What was your take on the Berrios trade last year? You loved it right?
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 Never according to everyone here...look at dat WAR Some here are too worried about Varsho losing his value if he doesn't play much. As if having to establish a s***** hitters value should supersede team wins.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 You are being too generous to say his war is 1.9. I'd prefer FWAR more than BWAR in terms of batters, and Varsho's fwar is 0.7. Dude has been a f***ing scrub so far. If he were playing CF, at least you could stomach his empty at bats but getting that from LF is a huge reason why our offense sucks.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 He has actually been at Kiermaier's level when playing CF. Let's not be rash over a month of complete sucking offensively. He's no where near Keirmaier's level. Keirmaier has a cannon for an arm. He's number 1 in outfielder jump. Varsho is 22nd. Keirmaier's ability to make the difficult catch leaping diving running into the wall is extremely high. Varsho is decent fielder, no question, but I don't think he's elite. Keirmaier is in different class for sure.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 Grove is useless without the sticky stuff.

Its almost to the Manoah level from earlier in the season where they should be able to fix or improve his hitting with a few weeks off, but his defense makes it so the team just sticks with him. He should just guess high fastball every pitch until he starts hitting them. Good bet he would get more hits

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 OOA, DRS, and UZR all say he has been at least as good as Kiermaier in CF. But Varsho is suppose to be the bat of the 2. And Kiermaier is sporting 111 wRC+ to Varsho's 73. That's an absurd difference.

Varsho arm strength is only 37th percentile. KK still has 91st percentile sprint speed which is mind boggling.

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 That is where he is playing next season We better be re-signing KK. He has been one of the few brightspots on this team. f*** Varsho until he can prove he can hit properly. We are win now mode, not rebuilding anymore.

If you think trading Gurriel in a contract year and your number one prospect is worth getting a JBJ clone, then whatever. I'd actually prefer JBJ at 26 years old than Varsho by a country mile.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 The top comment on that is we traded our #1 prospect and Gurriel for Bradley Zimmer. And honestly that's kinda been the case lol.
