Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted May 16, 2023 Posted May 16, 2023 I'd be okay with shaking things up. Springer has been pretty terrible with the bat so far.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 16, 2023 Posted May 16, 2023 and pretty and gay! Why do fans think shakeups like this work? If leadoff is the major problem, who is more likely to have a higher OBP moving forward, Springer or Merrifield? Springer's timing is off, there is no doubt about that. But he's seeing similar pitches to what he was last year. Most seasons he heats up in May. Let's give him to the end of the month before we go putting a .291 xwOBA guy in leadoff.

And you played ball your whole life. Did you ever have a miracle fix because they put you in a different batting order spot? Did you ever see the reverse happen? We spend millions of dollars on mental conditioning, and "let's shake things up" is the fans suggestion. I like your suggestion a lot more than moving Merrifield up.

I like your suggestion a lot more than moving Merrifield up. It’s not about fixing Springer it’s about giving the team the best chance to win and putting out the best lineup. I’ve been around enough to know that the guy who is ice cold probably isn’t breaking that streak tomorrow. I know what the projections say but what happens over the next 400 AB’s is different than the next 40. Hit him third even but I want Bo then Vlad back at the top of the order come the later innings right now
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 16, 2023 Posted May 16, 2023 Players like Springer probably wouldn't take it that kindly if you dropped him all the way down to 7th in the lineup haha, even though I agree he should hit in a different spot until he starts showing some more at the plate. Maybe bat Bo and Vlad in the top two spots and hit Springer either 3rd, 4th or 5th on certain days depending on matchups.

I don’t see the big deal having your best two hitters hit 1&2 but it’s a controversial opinion apparently
