John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 So was he born in India or he is just an American with Indian descent? Born in Florida. I Think just a year or two after his parents immigrated.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 Parents immigrated from India. If he wasn’t a mlb player, he’d be a doctor or computer engineer making bank. I say this because I am an idiot that loves stereotypes
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 I think if I was a Team like the Mariners stacked with specs, I would be more inclined to draft a high school kid. I think in our current situation with the cupboard somewhat bare, that with a really deep pool of college hitters, it might have been wiser to go with a college kid.....
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 Come on lol. No writer credit for that?

Yeah not like they’ve killed it going with their scouting.

You can't fault the organization for wanting to dream on upside. If they hit on this kid the marketing potential is insane.

It’s never the wrong move to draft up the middle guys unless they’re clearly better upside in college waiting to be taken. Admittedly I have not followed the draft lead up and rankings as much this season because of how few picks the Jays have in the top few rounds, but … a plus power hitting SS who can defend with no worries about having to move off the position seems pretty defensible.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 Braves gets Waldrep He is a guy that we might be talking about in the future for regret with his insane swing and miss. But there's also an excellent change he walks everyone and ends up in the Bullpen.

Might be the case with the Rays taking a college SS one pick before us.... The common theme by the announcers is that due to Covid etc this is a very deep college hitter class. So a guy who might have gone 12 in another draft is now going 20 due to how deep it is this year specifically.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 Surprised with the Jays pick. Thought for sure they'd go safe. I like going high upside and taking some risk.

Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 I love the Rays pick... Fnnnn Rays...One pick before us...
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 I love the Rays pick... Fnnnn Rays...One pick before us... They don’t know bats either

The Blue Jays don't have a great history of drafting SS, both high school and College... The last high school SS at 12, got us Bass I don't shop at Target and Oh Pop I'm a Canadian but not a Blue Jay fan.

Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 Aaron Hill was a good pick Yea, he was the best of the lot. Won Silver slugger one year, then moved off SS to 2b and sucked on D and couldn't hit...

Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 That Bo Bichette guy is pretty trash. Wasn't first round/first pick...I should have clarified. Jays don't have a great history using their 1st pick in the draft on SS. Hill one of the better ones for a short time. Austin Martin fell to us and we were able to trade him for Berrios before his value totally tanked. So, good use of the asset. There are a lot of big misses though in the first pick at SS going back to the early 90s.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 They keep talking about guys being young out of high school. You're suppose to be done High School at 17 lol
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 Yea, he was the best of the lot. Won Silver slugger one year, then moved off SS to 2b and sucked on D and couldn't hit... None of this is right, lol
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 Love this pick Videos look good Diversity hire is also smart in this economy
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 None of this is right, lol What's not accurate..? He hit well with the Jays first few years, then pretty much sucked after his ALCBPY.. He got moved off SS for D and then cost us a s*** load of games with his s*** D at 2b, a few against the Yankees in big games... He was revitalized in the NL for a bit after the trade, but when he left the Jays he couldn't hit or play D worth a s***.
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
