Varsho continuing to bat clean up is getting comical. How is Chapman not batting clean up? Is Varsho one of the top four hitters on the team? Stop over thinking this Schneider.

I think Schneider sometimes has Montoyo flashbacks and imitates him.

Well its pretty simple Gruber. They don’t want 4 straight right-handed hitters in the lineup.

With him it’s all about the batted ball data. He’s not hitting the ball hard at all, hard hit rate of only 11% and his IFBB rate is 33.3%. He’s literally popped it up for a third of his batted balls. Gross.

If I'm not mistaken that means a third of his flyballs are infield pop ups.

Yes you’re right. So not quite as alarming, although still troubling that he’s not managing to put good wood on the ball.

Does it really make a difference if he’s hitting 4th or 5th? At most they’d swap him and Chapman and its a difference of 1 spot. Its like arguing Vlad should be 2nd over 3rd.

End of the day it doesn’t really matter. They obviously feel the L-R balance is more important than the actual spots.

Pena lead off for the Astros all year in 2022 BTW

Ugh Kirk butchered that, should’ve been strike 3. Doesn’t matter as Berrios makes another good pitch to retire Alvarez.

Kirks game calling is not great imo. Jansen noticeably better

I thought for sure they would pair Berrios/Jansen based on his last start. Oh well....

Garcia’s location has been impeccable. The lone poor pitch was that high breaking ball to Chapman, but it ended up being so far from the rest of his spots that it almost ended up working out as changing locations on purpose.
