Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2023 Posted April 15, 2023 If someone told me kikuchi and berrios were going to shove in the first 2 games I would have assumed you were high. Amazing If it makes you feel any better. I have been high for both of these games : )
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2023 Posted April 15, 2023 If someone told me kikuchi and berrios were going to shove in the first 2 games I would have assumed you were high. Amazing That’s baseball. Both guys can be good on any given day . Kikuchi will be very good this year is my prediction

Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted April 15, 2023 Posted April 15, 2023 Jansen better game caller than kirk? Thoughts? At this point yes, but worse framing
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2023 Posted April 15, 2023 If Kikuchi throws strikes like he has to start this year, he's a top of the rotation starter (#2/#3). Very encouraging.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2023 Posted April 15, 2023 At this point yes, but worse framing Which will be irrelevant as soon as they go to roboumps.
BCZ Verified Member Posted April 15, 2023 Posted April 15, 2023 Huh? Didn't really blow the game today did he you absolute brain dead turd. He's literally the worst pitcher in baseball the last few seasons, among qualified, the f***ing worst... it makes you a simpleton to go off one start...
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2023 Posted April 15, 2023 He's literally the worst pitcher in baseball the last few seasons, among qualified, the f***ing worst... it makes you a simpleton to go off one start... Last one singular season you mean, and he's been looking like a different pitcher since spring training actually. Definitively not just one start.
BCZ Verified Member Posted April 15, 2023 Posted April 15, 2023 Correction, second worst. 2021-2023: 2nd worst starter in baseball by WAR (min 200 IP).
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2023 Posted April 15, 2023 Correction, second worst. 2021-2023: 2nd worst starter in baseball by WAR (min 200 IP). so if you combine his worst seasons he's one of the worst pitchers, including this one without factoring in this game which probably pushes him up like 30 spots LOL.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted April 15, 2023 Posted April 15, 2023 Can't just be happy that Kooch has been pitching way better and might have turned it around hey? Have to have a negative f***ing spin on everything amirite?
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2023 Posted April 15, 2023 9 K9 / 1.90 BB/9 will play, a trend that started in spring training its reasonable to think he may have found something and might continue to pitch well for the 5th spot in the rotation.

thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted April 16, 2023 Posted April 16, 2023 Nice to see the Rays getting a dose of reality at the Jays ballpark instead of the opposite at Tropicana.

He also was considerably better last season when he moved to the pen. A 16.2 K/9 and a 2.28 xFIP with a .371 BABIP likely making the line looks a bit worse than it should be. There has been real progress, and while I'm still expecting a few stinkers, I think we're seeing the results of a guy who really put the work in to get a handle on his excellent stuff.

I can't help but feel Kikuchi's spring training/early season start has serious shades of Robbie Ray's monster 2021 season. Ray turned his career around that offseason with twice a day workouts and showed up in spring training a new and improved version of himself with far better command. Kikuchi worked in Driveline in the offseason and also showed up in spring training with far better command. I'm not predicting Kikuchi is going to win a Cy Young award any time soon but he's turned himself into a guy who looks like far more than a 5th starter up to this point.

Everyone is aware of Kikuchi’s struggles. But coming here after he actually pitches will and to say stupid s*** like this one start will buy him 2 months you’re going to get called out. So you wanted him to suck today and for us to lose? So who can take his rotation spot Mitch White? Drew Hutchison? You think they are just going to throw Ricky T into the rotation after a 3 inning outing in Double-A? Kikuchi literally did everything you possibly could do in the off-season to come back stronger this year. 2 of his 3 outings have went very well. He deserves a chance to continue on that success. He’s literally the 5th Starter.

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted April 16, 2023 Posted April 16, 2023 There’s no bad Scotch bud. Lots of blended scotches are mediocre to poor, and I, personally, HATE Islays.
