The_DH Verified Member Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 That's about it for #8. The number was held for the bullpen coach for a long time so not a lot of players.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 Yorvit Torrealba, Ben Francisco, Ken Macha, Pedro Swann, Bob Davis
The_DH Verified Member Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 Nah. missing a couple really household names. Alan Ashby and Kendrys Morales sorry I meant the good or the best ones, but you're right, Ashby and Morales were worthy of a picture.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 Nah. missing a couple really household names. Alan Ashby and Kendrys Morales That Kendrys Morales signing still annoys me to this day.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 That Kendrys Morales signing still annoys me to this day. Yeah one of the bad FA signings made by Shapiro/Atkins. Think they jumped the gun, outbid themselves and got scared because they were going to lose EE that offseason. There was no need to give Morales three years.

Both the Jays and Edwin lost that off-season. We ended up with Kendrys Morales and Edwin signed for less than the Jays offered him despite wanting to return.

Edwin still was a productive hitter from 2017-2019.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 Edwin lost less than Joey Bats though Yeah Bautista missed out big. He was asking for 5 years and $125M correct?
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 Edwin lost less than Joey Bats though Bautista’s demands were always out of the realm of realism. I remember him being hell bent on making up for the incredibly team friendly contract he signed through his prime. It didn’t seem like the Jays were ever willing to entertain it. People forget the Jays were taking a risk giving him 5/65 after one elite season. But ended up being one of the best contracts in Baseball. Edwin had a well documented deal on the table. 4 years and 80 million and he ended up getting 3 years and 60 million.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 Yeah sad they couldn't work out a deal. Edwin still was a productive hitter from 2017-2019. His agent is a dumbass.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 Yeah Bautista missed out big. He was asking for 5 years and $125M correct? Yeah he got the $18m tag one year and not sure what he made after that, but it wasn’t much
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 I feel like the Jays were willing to pay him 5/125 and he wanted more. Not going to research it though
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 I feel like the Jays were willing to pay him 5/125 and he wanted more. Not going to research it though In his first interview since the winter meetings in early December, Paul Kinzer — Encarnacion’s agent in what is now a sluggish free-agent market for power hitters — told Sportsnet 590 The FAN that the slugger has six multi-year offers to consider. But a reunion with the Jays was always his top priority, and could have happened if the club hadn’t signed first baseman/DH Kendrys Morales just “two days” after offering Encarnacion $80 million over four years. Morales was signed for 3/33 million.

Tied their hands so early in the offseason when they could have been more patient for a DH/1B type bat.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 We don't know the whole story. This FO hasn't given me any good reason to doubt them, Morales being a pumpkin regardless.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 Yeah I was talking about JB’s extension talks though Yeah Jose's was good. JB's quotes: "If this is going to happen, I think it should be natural, organic, quick and easy," said Bautista, who is eligible for free agency at the end of the season. "It shouldn't be pull and tug over a few dollars here and there. "I didn't want to waste their time or their effort, so they can start planning ahead, and if it's not going to happen, they have plenty of time to [respond]. They asked me about two weeks ago, and I told them, that's it. There's no negotiation, I told them what I wanted. They either meet it, or it is what it is." Bautista technically might be underpaid now, but that won't be the case at the end of the season, and for anyone who believes he might take a hometown discount, think again. That's not on the table. "That doesn't exist, not in my world," Bautista said. "In my eyes, I've given this organization a five-year hometown discount already." (for context, these quotes were taken at the start of spring training in 2016 he was heading into the last year of a 5/65 deal) Bautista said he didn't give the Blue Jays a firm deadline to accept his offer -- which TSN's Rick Westhead reported as being five years and $150 million, terms Bautista denied were correct he then had a pretty pedestrian 2016 and ended up signing a 1 year 18.5 deal for 2017 with Toronto - played like dogshit, then played like even worse dogshit in 2018 for the Phillies, Braves and Mets and retired.
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 lol Jose I wonder how much the Blue Jays would have paid him if he were willing to negotiate down
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 lol Jose I wonder how much the Blue Jays would have paid him if he were willing to negotiate down I'm so glad they didn't come to an agreement. His decline was quick and ugly.
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 I'm so glad they didn't come to an agreement. His decline was quick and ugly. Like, they probably would have given him a three year deal or something right. Hahaha Jose.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 Like, they probably would have given him a three year deal or something right. Hahaha Jose. Have to think the Edwin deal was on the table for Jose as well. I could see a 3/60 or 4/80 being fair for both sides at the time he was an FA.
