TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 28, 2023 Posted January 28, 2023 Olerud is the obvious answer, so probably not him. Alfredo Griffin pinch ran for Olerud in the 8th. Don't remember if they were hitting for Griffin or not.

It was Alfredo on deck, media and fans were livid Wild Thing threw to Carter. lol... they likely would've pinch hit for him, though.
The_DH Verified Member Posted January 28, 2023 Posted January 28, 2023 So f***ing out! That could have been the play of the century.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2023 Posted January 28, 2023 That could have been the play of the century. The thing is, the Jays played it completely wrong in their haste which was the only reason they had a chance at the triple play. Pendleton, who started at 1b on that play with Sanders at 2b, went all the way around second and PAST Sanders who was actually holding up to see if White would catch it or not, so Pendleton was already out. The cutoff man (alomar) had no reason to throw back to 1b to get Pendleton, but because they did.... Sanders, who was tagging at 2b, tried to advance to third so Olerud then threw it over to Gruber who ran down Sanders and the ump botched the call. Had Alomar just gloved the throw from White and walked it in without throwing to first needlessly, there would not have even been a chance at the triple play.

Surely with Rob Butler. Imagine the storyline of a Canadian rookie walking off the World Series. That would have been something.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2023 Posted January 28, 2023 I was at that game when Overbay got beaned and broke his wrist, dude was never the same after that really, sad.

Yeah the pic i posted was a series a few months after the whole "HA" thing from A-Rod. Arod got thrown behind by Litsch in the first game of the series, then hit by Towers in this game (hence the pic), Matt Stairs tried to get after ARod but was held back by someone... then Clemens hit Rios square in the back later on. I think the benches cleared like 4 times that day. Was the same game wehn Joba Chamberlain made his MLB debut.

I don't think I'll ever forget Towers pointing to first and yelling "TAKE YOUR f***ING BASE" at Arod, while he was chirping at the mound.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2023 Posted January 28, 2023 Manny Lee, guess who was on deck when Carter hit his memorable bomb? I remember Manny Lee just not what he looked like. But honestly I forget the significance of that play. I was watching the Carter Hr. I was 12 I think

I was watching the Carter Hr. I was 12 I think Carter hit the HR the following year, that play was against Braves, the infamous blown triple play call... all made because of a sublime catch from Devo.
The_DH Verified Member Posted January 29, 2023 Posted January 29, 2023 After Iorg, just a bunch of cups of coffee.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2023 Posted January 29, 2023 After Iorg, just a bunch of cups of coffee. Mike Bordick completed a streak of over 100 games without an error at shortstop with the Blue Jays, while wearing #16.
The_DH Verified Member Posted January 29, 2023 Posted January 29, 2023 100 is about 2/3 of a season. That's a cup of coffee in my opinion.

Couldn't find a good back of jersey pic but this is a neat shot. Also TIL that Bordick is one of the top 10 defensive SS of all time in terms of fielding percentage, and arguably the best to never win a GG.

I was just mentioning a notable achievement in a Jays uniform. Todd Stottlemyre and Greg Myers had fairly notable Jays careers. Myers coming in at age 37 and putting up a .307/.374/.502 line as our primary catcher in 2003 is one of the more surprising seasons I can remember along with Matt Stairs' huge season at a pretty ripe age.

The 2003 season was fun. Myers had such an awesome season and Bordick was solid as well. Stairs in 2007 provided some great power numbers.
