Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted January 13, 2023 Posted January 13, 2023 Another Hall of Famer that's not a pitcher wore that number for the Blue Jays. Any guesses without looking? He wants noise
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted January 13, 2023 Posted January 13, 2023 (edited) 17 Blue Jay players have worn #32, Most notably of course the Doc, Roy Halladay from 1999 through 2009. The first player to wear it was Don Kirkwood in 1978 and the last player to wear #32 for the Jays was Scott Diamond in 2016. The # is now retired of course, because Roy Halladay was the best pitcher in Blue Jays history, but sucked at flying while high. Edited January 13, 2023 by John_Havok

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 13, 2023 Posted January 13, 2023 Both can be true. You don't think they were going to retire #32 if he was a good pilot while flying high? OK, I'll admit it may have accelerated the process - but how soon after you retire do they typically retire your #?

Only comparable for the Jays was Alomar, he retired in 2005, jersey # retired in 2011 along with his HoF induction. Alomar and Doc are the only two #'s retired by the Jays. The rest are just level of excellence. Kinda seems like the Jays wait until there's a HoF announcement before they retire a #. Edited January 13, 2023 by John_Havok
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 13, 2023 Posted January 13, 2023 I don't care what anyone else thinks, but Dave Stieb's # needs to be retired ASAP.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 13, 2023 Posted January 13, 2023 Does Stieb fly? Anyone that can spin a ball like he did, can do anything.

Damn yall just made me realize #12 is retired and Varsho was #12 with AZ. Any idea if he’s chosen a new number yet? Or is that something that gets sorted at spring training. I’m waiting to buy his jersey

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted January 13, 2023 Posted January 13, 2023 They officially gave him #25. Let's hope he plays a Devo calibre OF
Captain_Obvious Verified Member Posted January 13, 2023 Posted January 13, 2023 They officially gave him #25. Makes sense. I expect 25 OOA, 25 HRs, and 25 SBs a year.

Alomar's number isn't in the rafters anymore, is it still retired? They seem to have erased him from team history for the most part...

I think so? I only went to one game last season, and I noticed that the pennant up in the middle with 12 on it was gone, don't think I saw him on the Level of Excellence either.

Definitely. Also my mom got me a plaque of “greatest jays players all-time” for Christmas and there was a very important 2B missing… The Alomar erasure has been swift and heavy.

My baseball I got him to sign in 1994 also vanished inside it's sealed box.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted January 13, 2023 Posted January 13, 2023 MLB.com only shows #32 & #42 retired for the Blue Jays... https://www.mlb.com/bluejays/history/records-stats-awards/retired-numbers
