Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 If he runs out of names to throw out there by 2025, we could provide him a list of all of Spanky’s rosters and he’d be back in business. Didn't make the playoffs^^^^
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 The Yankees fans really want to move Giancarlo we could probably get a sweet deal on he an Rizzo. Ps try to get Nasty Nestor lol
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 I'd do Vlad for 4 years of Stanton at 25aav, thats Bellinger money, 1 year of rizzo at 20 aav, plus a player option for the next year. And 2 years of Nasty Nestor. Yankees would have to eat about 13million for this year.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 and make them throw in Rortvedt.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 Blue Jays Have Some Interest In Rhys Hoskins, Justin Turner By Anthony Franco | December 19, 2023 at 11:06pm CDT The Blue Jays have some level of interest in Rhys Hoskins and Justin Turner as they evaluate their options at designated hitter, reports Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet. That’s part of a wide net being cast by the front office, as Nicholson-Smith reiterates previously reported ties to J.D. Martinez, Joc Pederson and Joey Votto as well. Toronto has a vacancy at DH with Brandon Belt returning to the open market. Bringing in a left-handed bat to complement a lineup led by Bo Bichette, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., George Springer and Danny Jansen would be ideal, but the interest in Martinez suggests they’re not limiting themselves solely to lefty hitters. GM Ross Atkins has alluded to the potential for multiple lineup additions, after all. The Jays could add a right-handed DH while bringing in a lefty bat in the outfield. Hoskins lost the 2023 season after tearing the ACL in his left knee during Spring Training. He’d likely have made it back as a DH or pinch-hitting option had the Phillies made the World Series. While that didn’t happen, the 30-year-old (31 in March) projects as one of the better offensive players on the market. Hoskins has been a consistent middle-of-the-order presence throughout his career, compiling a .242/.353/.492 line. He has hit between 27 and 34 home runs in each of the four full seasons he’s played while running better than average walk rates on an annual basis. Turner has been a consistently strong lineup presence as well. He hasn’t had a below-average offensive season since his 2014 breakout with the Dodgers. At age 39, he’s no longer suited for 140+ starts at third base. Yet Turner could serve as a primary DH while rotating in at the hot corner, where the Jays have a question with Matt Chapman still in free agency. Turner is still more than capable of handling a primary DH role. He’s coming off an impressive .276/.345/.455, 23-homer showing for the Red Sox. It doesn’t seem either player is a priority target for the Toronto front office. Nicholson-Smith suggests the Jays could wait out the market for another few weeks to determine whether anyone in a broad group of hitters of interest presents strong value later in the offseason. Hoskins has also drawn reported interest from the Cubs, Mariners and Nationals. Turner has been on the radar of the incumbent Red Sox, Mets and Diamondbacks. MLBTR predicted Hoskins to land a two-year, $36MM guarantee that allows him to opt out after next season, although a standard one-year pillow contract is also possible. Turner seems likelier to sign for one year given his age, but he could also command a salary in the $16-18MM range.

Then we qualify him so we can get a pick ala Semien/Ray.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 If Hoskins would be down for signing a one-year contract, he would be perfect. Bounce back candidate and you're not locking yourself up for multiple years. Would rather sign a bunch of stopgaps this offseason in order to free up money for next offseason when it's a stronger FA class of elite talent.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 Hoskins please. Could even have him play some 1B. I stumbled upon this play again and it reminded me how stupid and annoying Vlad is. The way he lays there and waves his hand in the air when he was obviously out. Should have left him lay there and wave til the cows came home. They need to take away his water cooler and get him to be more serious about the game. Unfortunately I don't think he'll learn from his mistakes. He's that spoiled kid on the team that think they do no wrong.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 Hoskins is the "dream" signing for me since he might reasonably take a 1 year pillow deal and he projects for 2 WAR. He also might be a great veteran addition for Davis Schneider. They have the same offensive profile but Hoskins has been doing it for 667 MLB games, so maybe he has some valuable knowledge to pass along to a fellow "three true outcomes" RHB.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 Speaking of Davis Schneider, he has to be a locked in starter out of spring training right? 2B job needs to just be his. 2 WAR in 141 PA last year. 2 WAR projection in just 400 projected PA. 113 wRC+ projection. They are not going to sign anybody that should bump him out of playing time.
bluejaysinternNo5 Verified Member Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 Hoskins is the way. Very consistent player and like others have said very possible we could get him on a one year deal. Perfect.

Even if the team doesn’t believe he’s real you have to give him consistent playing time in April and May for him to prove he’s not.

The Jays have a bunch of guys that can step in and provide some kind of reasonable floor at 2B if Davis isn't the next Mike Trout. That's the one position you save some money at so you can blow your load on LF/DH.

Not only that, IMO he's the only FA available that could reasonably play more innings at 1B than Vlad in 2024. I want to see more Vlad at DH not less.

And the fact that he tries to double down and play it off like he didn’t make a massive f***up. I f***ing hate when players try to tell the ump/dugout that they’re safe. “Acting” doesn’t do anything to sway anybody’s call on the play dipshits.

They are not going to sign anybody that should bump him out of playing time. He had to have a month like roided up Barry Bonds in order to get playing time last season, and the moment he started to regress, they couldn't wait to bench him. I think he should be the starting 2B until he loses that spot, but I'm curious on how exactly they view him and the 2B position in general. As far as Hoskins, there was talk (which might have been just speculation) that he wanted a 1+1 deal where he could opt out in year 2, which Boras guys have done recently with pillow contracts. If it's a straight 1 year deal, then he's a great fit. If it's a situation where you have to give a player opt out to a DH coming off a torn ACL, then I might look elsewhere. Hoskins, Garver, and JDM are all great fits. The Jays need power in the lineup badly.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 I agree but I don’t think the front office sees him as anything more than a bench piece I am a bit concerned because of his playing time down the stretch. Of course he didn't do himself any favours and sucked for a long stretch in Sept.

There’s nothing excusing the f*** up, but your player signaling to challenge the play isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Especially in that case, it’s not the equivalent of LeBron not getting back on D with 9 minutes to go in the first quarter, while protesting a foul.
