MikeM3 Verified Member Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 Might be worse. Indeed possible
BatFlip Verified Member Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 Might be worse. Yeah, exactly... might be, might be. Tiedmann is more highly regarded (industry consensus) right now than Thorpe and should have more trade value. However it's possible the Padres rate Thorpe much higher than other orgs. Both guys have high ceilings and huge uncertainties on whether they'll be successful in the bigs, but it does show that the cost will be high for a one year rental who is looking for an insane long-term contract.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 I honestly don’t think Soto costs Tiedemann Getting 1 year of Soto would definitely be a "window is now" move. That bat in our order with him in LF, Varsho in CF and Springer in RF is pretty tempting. It might not cost Ricky, but whatever the price, its gonna sting.
MikeM3 Verified Member Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 I think in our situation we can offer to take Cronenworth back because he actually fills a position for us. And his contract is so hilarious that the Pads probably want to get off it asap. So that probably brings the Soto package down a bit. But getting stuck with that and not extending Soto is pretty terrible so ya..

I think with the owner dying, getting rid of that contract will probably be more attractive to them than the max prospect return

Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 Jung Hoo Lee looks like a Kwan type player. Has a great arm and prowls center field. Mets have interest. https://www.fangraphs.com/players/jung-hoo-lee/kr3012640/stats?position=OF https://prospectsworldwide.com/2020/06/08/scouting-report-kiwoom-heroes-of-lee-jung-hoo-1/amp/
Funky Verified Member Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 Sign Yamamoto Trade RT for Soto Trade Manoah for Yelich Trade Espinal for Paredes. Trade Springer for back end pitcher or reliever. Wake up and realize this is a pipe dream and that I would actually miss Springer.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 I wouldn’t touch Cronenworth and that contract that’s a decade long
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 "Something I've heard...." Calling BS on this one.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 So the Jays suck offensively and might move Bo/Springer this offseason... sure lol
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 "That is unrealistic" Go ahead, underestimate AlphA-tkins you bitch Morosi
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 "Something I've heard...." Calling BS on this one. Jeff Blair is the worst. I don’t believe for a second the Jays are trying to get rid of Springer, not after 1 down year. He’s also one of the only “vetrin” guys in the lineup right now
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 100% on board moving Springer he looks toast
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 I'm sure they'd love to dump the bad part of Springer's contract but it's not happening. Nobody would want him
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Jeff Blair is the worst. I don’t believe for a second the Jays are trying to get rid of Springer, not after 1 down year. He’s also one of the only “vetrin” guys in the lineup right now Not to mention that he's one of the best defensive RFs in the game so even with his down year offensively, he's still a huge plus overall. Like sure if you find a younger/cheaper player instead you go for it but replacing him should not be a top priority.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 I'm sure they'd love to dump the bad part of Springer's contract but it's not happening. Nobody would want him If they were to dump Springer for nothing just to get out of the contract, then he bounces back next year we would look extremely foolish
Marew Verified Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 I’m all for keeping Springer if he starts playing well and rolls those pants down. Time to grow up.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 If they were to dump Springer for nothing just to get out of the contract, then he bounces back next year we would look extremely foolish If if if What if he’s a 2 WAR player making 25M for the next three years? He barely slugged over .400 I’m looking forward to seeing if any of the Jays bounce back in the power department or if the RC now plays like Safeco
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 There isn't a team in the league that would give Springer 3/67.5M on the market right now. I think it's pretty clear that Toronto would dump that contract if they had a chance and reallocate the money elsewhere.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 If if if What if he’s a 2 WAR player making 25M for the next three years? He barely slugged over .400 I’m looking forward to seeing if any of the Jays bounce back in the power department or if the RC now plays like Safeco Pretty much the entire lineup had career-worst slugging % Willing to give him a pass as well as Vladdy and Kirk. If they all look the same next year then we’re in trouble
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Atkins gonna do Manoah + Orelvis for Soto
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Pretty much the entire lineup had career-worst slugging % Willing to give him a pass as well as Vladdy and Kirk. If they all look the same next year then we’re in trouble Exactly... by that logic, we need to get rid of the entire team. Springer's not old enough for me to expect him to fall off a cliff yet. I'd wager he bounces back based on his track history.
