JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2023 Posted March 7, 2023 Yea, a strikeout because of the pitch clock... now that's baseball... LOL
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2023 Posted March 7, 2023 Yea, a strikeout because of the pitch clock... now that's baseball... LOL Yeah that was a f***ing joke. Ump was off to the side grabbing baseballs, Lukes got in the box like a second after the ump was ready. That’s garbage IMO

Laika Community Moderator Posted March 7, 2023 Posted March 7, 2023 I can understand why Lukes thought the clock wasn't running But, just one of those spring training learning experiences about how the whole thing works
The_DH Verified Member Posted March 7, 2023 Posted March 7, 2023 the process will get ironed out. Probably needs to be umpire sets up, the clock on the hitter starts up, then hitter sets up and clock on pitcher starts up.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 7, 2023 Posted March 7, 2023 If you are watching on GameDay Kikuchi looks pretty good again. The first BB had some close pitches. Second one, he lost command of his slider. The "lineout" of Smith-Njigba was actually a normal flyball. He made Austin Hedges look stupid. Some nice changeups today. Popping 96+ on the FB.

Because he was barely ready when he called the auto strike. I think they still have some amendments to make to the clock rule. Clock should freeze if Ump isn’t behind the catcher. Also pirates broadcasters brought up a good point, how whill they handle celebrations/milestones/standing Os??

Yup he’s looked great this spring

He was taking a lap, fixing his hair, and saying five hail maries after every foul ball. Just stay in the box, lol.

Unfortunately we’re definitely gonna see some bad calls like this in April until it gets changed

Also pirates broadcasters brought up a good point, how whill they handle celebrations/milestones/standing Os?? Yeah I'm not sure that was actually correct by the clock operator, or the ump. They are probably told that the clock runs unless the umpire calls time. But if an ump steps away to get balls or whatever isn't that effectively time? I dunno. Like, if the pitcher cannot actually throw a pitch if he wanted then the clock should not be ticking down.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 7, 2023 Posted March 7, 2023 Oh come on, stop being a doorknob. Ump was literally not even there, why would he stand in the box Lukes did the same thing the pitch before and almost missed his mark
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2023 Posted March 7, 2023 Lukes did the same thing the pitch before and almost missed his mark I have no problem if they call it in normal situations, just don’t like the Ump f***ing off to go get balls, then calling a clock infraction as soon as he returns to the catcher
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 7, 2023 Posted March 7, 2023 Baseball is 10000000x better with a pitch clock omfg
The_DH Verified Member Posted March 7, 2023 Posted March 7, 2023 you know they are going to f*** it up, umps can never do anything right, it will just create more controversies Yeah but I figure it's spring: the best time to expose all of these issues and questions.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 7, 2023 Posted March 7, 2023 that "lineout" by Bae was also not hard hit. More of a shallow fly.
The_DH Verified Member Posted March 7, 2023 Posted March 7, 2023 Kikuchi is getting decent results but his pitching motion isn't very fluid: he's all over the place in his follow through with both of his arms.
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2023 Posted March 7, 2023 Yusei Kikuchi may be a pleasant surprise this season.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 7, 2023 Posted March 7, 2023 Good job in the 3rd by Kikuchi quick out went 3-2 but didn't lose the guy, groundout made Bryan Reynolds look stupid on a high fastball for the K. Threw a slider for a strike, then got him out in front of a changeup for strike 2.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2023 Posted March 7, 2023 Its the Pirates and its Spring, but Kooch looks like a 5th starter we won't dread in '23. I like his pace with the clock.

Laika Community Moderator Posted March 7, 2023 Posted March 7, 2023 Kikuchi is getting decent results but his pitching motion isn't very fluid: he's all over the place in his follow through with both of his arms. in the article on Sportsnet today it mentions that Kikuchi wants to fall off the mound differently this year he might be trying something different from the traditional "straight line to home" thing
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2023 Posted March 7, 2023 Isn't extended in Dunedin? Think we're saying the same thing. We probably have a few candidates for the long man role: Thompson, Pearson, Zulu? Yes, lol. You said he might and I said he will go to extended...
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2023 Posted March 7, 2023 Dumbing down the game for the sake of making the game shorter. Just like it used to be. As a traditionalist, I'm really pleased we're returning the game back to it's original state.
