Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2023 Posted November 11, 2023 I will tone back my criticism of Shatkins if they show the balls to get Bauer. I know it's not happening but it'd be awesome if it did. Then trade one of our Starters for an elite bat.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2023 Author Posted November 11, 2023 That's not a burn, it's projection. Figures JimmyC liked it too, lol. That dude is cray-cray and has basically only poked a finger when he's around, deranged, if you will. Hurl's supposed to stop it, but nah. Oh stop pretending like it matters to ya. Newfies have thicker skin than that b'y!

Maybe the SF Giants. I could see one of the Texas teams or the Rays signing him.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 This tells you how thin this year's FA is... Though Turner made his desire to remain in Boston clear, he also admitted that he’s fielded interest from more teams this season than he did as a free agent last year. Cotillo notes that the Dodgers, Diamondbacks, Marlins, and Angels all made offers to the veteran last year. The Diamondbacks are once again rumored to be interested in Turner’s services this offseason, though it’s unclear what other clubs may have interest in Turner this offseason. That uncertainty surrounds the Red Sox, themselves, as the club’s level of interest in Turner for 2024 and beyond isn’t entirely clear.

You’d have to think they’d need to pay like $70m out of the $100m owed “We try to limit the time he’s down,” Cashman said at the general manager meetings in Arizona, according to the New York Daily News. “But I'm not gonna tell you he’s gonna play every game next year because he’s not. He’s going to wind up getting hurt again more likely than not because it seems to be part of his game.”

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2023 Author Posted November 14, 2023 Are you sure?? Lol, so a team that won 100 games will now get what… 4 picks in the top 40? Keep ‘em rolling in, it’s the only way they’ll ever compete

Ehjays Verified Member Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 Would we want him as DH at that price? No chance in Hell we take on Stanton at any price, He is slower than Kirk, also Yankees are over luxury tax and need a team to help bail them out in any way possible, and it should not be us. When the GM is saying part of his game is to wind up getting hurt you know its bad. Thats why he tip toes around the bases.

The player or the GM who acquired him two years into a 100 year $5 billion contract? Cashman is like one of those CEOs of a former blue chip company that gets exposed for being a fraud and the stock price tanks, and desperately clings to power and blames everyone and everything else. Then anyone who called him a genius or at least competent backtracks or pretends it never happened. Yankees aren't going anywhere until he's gone. He's still operating like it's 1998. How anybody can take a look at the Yankees and say "Yup, they'll turn it around" is beyond me. The Yankees could up their payroll to $500 million next year and sign all the biggest FA names and the team will still crater. I really hope Judge and Cole fall off a cliff in 2024 to join the rest of the team in overpaid mediocrity. Cashman will be known as the man who destroyed the Yankees legacy as "America's team".
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 Probably shouldn't have spent 350M so fast and waited for game changing players like Ohtani to blow their load on lol

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 Stanton looks like he is completely toast. He was one of my favourite players back with the Marlins coming up. Looked like he would smash 50-60 +HR's every season haha. Hasn't been able to stay healthy and now at his age, his skills are eroding. He's lucky if he cracks the Mendoza line and stays healthy to hit 25 or so HR's. Unless the Yankees ate his entire salary, wouldn't want him.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2023 Author Posted November 14, 2023 You mad, bro? Naw, just wondering how long it will take MLB to correct the obvious gaming of the system, like they did back when teams got to the Type A/B free agency thing. Anthopoulos in Toronto was a perfect example but there were many others. MLB realized there was a problem and corrected it. It could be something simple like if you get the extra pick for the rookie thing, you forfeit your competitive balance pick(s) or something.

To “game the system” in this way, you’d have to draft and develop someone with ROY potential. Then make sure he’s on your Opening Day roster. Don’t be jelly.

I posted a tweet a few months ago that had a clip of Stanton running the bases and trying to score. He runs worse than 40+ year old Pujols. His legs are completely shot and its sad.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 this one? i guess the only possible defense would be that he had an acute injury at the time that limited him to 60% of top speed and prevented him from sliding. lol
