Omar Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2022 Posted September 28, 2022 Can run all the drills in the world, the teams just has a decent sized collection of low baseball IQ players. Drills only go so far. Drills will help the players that have brains and are capable of learning, but it won't save the dummies. there is a culture surrounding this team and it is not good. You think if Francona was managing this team they would play as lackadaisical as they do? No way. Look at the discipline he instills in his players. Every play. Schneider is interim manager right now. Pretty hard to effect cultural change if you’re not sure you will be the teams manager next year. The players are not dumb. They just need a stern guiding hand.
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 28, 2022 Posted September 28, 2022 When Teoscar hit that 465 foot bomb the other day he said that the other players like that thing he does where he stands on home plate after crushing a pitch. Players are motivated by the idea of being the focal point of an iconic moment or highlight. Bautista's batflip is a legendary poster. This is GOOD when it causes focus and production but it can also be BAD when it leads to poor decisions. We saw it lead to poor baserunning decisions in the last couple of days by both Vlad and Teoscar. I'm not sure how you "fix" this. Like I said, the celebratory culture is pretty motivating for players. I guess it's just something to handle on a player by player basis. Like on an individual level they all need to know better. It's okay to pimp homeruns *sometimes* but these guys are trying to style on balls with topspin down the line or balls that might be clearing the CF wall by a few feet. That's stupid. There are players on this team that hit lots of home runs and never take one for granted. George Springer is past first base when some of his balls leave the park even when he nukes them. Frankly, Teoscar is just a bit of an airhead and the team should let him walk when his control is over. He makes so many mistakes in the outfield, mental mistakes.

Pimping a bomb is fine, but unless you’re 100% sure its gone then you HAVE to be running or at least jogging. Vlad and Teo’s hits were borderline homers at best
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2022 Posted September 28, 2022 (edited) Bottom line if you’re gonna admire your hit you better f***ing be 100 percent its gone. I never understood that mentality. Just run hard out of the box until they announce the Homerun or your Third Base coach tells you to stop running. Its not about bat flips or personality its about not turning doubles and triples into singles or compounding the issue by being thrown out at Second because you were jogging/walking until you rounded first. Show boat all you want after the hit or run is recorded. Just get out of the f***ing box lol Edited September 28, 2022 by Jonn

Vlad/Teo need to smarten up
PhillyBlueJay Verified Member Posted September 28, 2022 Posted September 28, 2022 The reason Montoyo was canned. Never held accountability to players on-field actions that frustrated other players in clubhouse. Bo, Teo, and Vladdy as the culprits acting like it was “their team” but you can only f***ing do that when you “hold yourself to the highest standards” and make the plays then you can walk the walk! Not the ******** we saw last night!!

Vlad/Teo need to smarten up Yup those were absolute no doubt bombs. I don’t know why players are pimping wall scrapers and warning track shots. You’re in prime position to see the trajectory of the Baseball as well. If it’s a low liner they still seem to watch it.

jaysthebest Verified Member Posted September 28, 2022 Posted September 28, 2022 How is? Bichette single handily gave up the game after his two horrible errors and baserunning.
