PhillyBlueJay Verified Member Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 Success to beat the Yankees this series: If Judge is at the plate with anyone on base you intentionally WALK him!!! Schneiderman made the right call 100%!!!

Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 3 stars: Vlady, Gausman, Romano Just amazing job by Gausman to keep it to 2 runs

BuckHenry Verified Member Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 In that situation , fighting for a playoff spot , top of ninth … of course Judge had to be walked ….anyone who doesn’t understand that , doesn’t know baseball …. Judge will get another home run but not at the expense of a teams playoff chances.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 (edited) Boone said after the game yesterday that he didn’t walk Vladdy because he didn’t want to face Kirk. He would rather face Vladdy than Kirk. Personally I think walking Vladdy would have been the better option; groundzilla notwithstanding. With two outs and walking Vlad he would have a force out at three bases. Edited September 27, 2022 by Omar

Laika Community Moderator Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 Single wins it so all we care about is batting average Guerrero .276 Kirk .292 Projected Kirk: .274 to .282 Guerrero .287 to .293 I don't see much sense in walking Guerrero. Also, with a runner on third Kirk could win it on any type of hit. With a runner on second Guerrero does not win it with an infield hit and also maybe not with a screaming line drive right at an outfielder.

Kirk would come up with Vlad at first and Biggio at second. Maybe Kirk has a 2% higher chance of getting a hit which is what Boone was thinking, but EV makes things happen imo and I would have walked Vladdy. Either way Boone gets eviscerated for losing.

It very telling that this is the opinion of the opponents (or at least the Yankees) when facing the Jays. Unfortunately, the stats agree that Vlad has been very poor late in games this year.
