Skygodz187 Verified Member Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 Wondering if you guys would be interested in this trade: Jose Urquidy, Jake Odorizzi, Korey Lee, Chas McCormick and 2 Mid Level prospects for Lourdes Gurriel, Gabriel Moreno and Cavan Biggio I understand You guys need Sp and we currently will have a big surplus of it. Astros need a Young C who can learn from Maldy. And 2 super Utility players to cover a lot of positions. Lourdes can cover a few spots of need . Urquidy easily fits into your rotation and So does Odorizzi and both have extra years to go Urquidy with 4 and Odirizzi with 2. McCormick can take Lourdes spot and 2 Mid Level Prospects can be Peter Solomom and Tyler Ivey again 2 more SP potential Players. Just wanted to see your thoughts?
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 There’s so much wrong with this trade I won’t bother going into immense detail. It’s just not realistic. Why would the Jays trade a young, highly touted catcher, a very decent starting OF, and a very average Jack of some trades for a middling starter to crap, a confirmed crap starter, a worse catcher and an average OF with some upside? A more realistic ask from the Jays would be like Danny Jansen for MCormick.

Cavan Biggio has NO Value. Gurriel is ok Value and Moreno is the Highest piece in the deal. HIGHLY toted? He is Ranked 2 And has played well all threw the Minors so far. is doing well in the MLB . but like any other prospect you wont know anything until 5 years from now

He is Ranked 2 And has played well all threw the Minors so far. is doing well in the MLB . but like any other prospect you wont know anything until 5 years from now Urquidy and Odirizzi aren’t BAD per se, but they certainly wouldn’t be the kind of arms people target via trade when someone like Moreno is involved. He’s a consensus top 10 prospect in baseball. A GM would be burned at the stake for trading him for a 4/5 starter like Odorizzi or Urquidy. In your own words, Gurriel is okay value, McCormick is filler. So your trade has us giving up the best prospect in the trade, the best OF in the trade and a no value bum in Biggio for two average to below average starters, a worse prospect, a worse outfielder and two mid tier prospects that are even worse than Lee. Do you see the problem here?
Dagagad Verified Member Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 You never want to do these massive package trades where most everything you are getting kind of sucks. How much for just Urquidy? His underlying stuff numbers have always been good. Moreno is off the table.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 Oof... Puff... Puff... Pass! Didn’t say they would do it…Houston would probably have to add a sweetener like….that Cf prospect in high A. He looks fun

Biggio for Urquidy and Enmanuel Valdez could work. Biggio has been worth double the value of Urquidy this year and the same age

Dagagad Verified Member Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 Am I looking at a different Urquidy than you are? His underlying numbers are very meh. This is from memory but he’s a guy that Eno Sarris always seems to like. His stuff+ is like 105 with good location numbers as well I think. I’m not sure why that doesn’t totally translate but I’d buy low on him. Houston aren’t trading him though.

No they're not, he has lots of upside relative to a SP. Biggio's worth more than you think, though.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 Lol, ok now we are taking it too far. .5 WAR to .9. Same age, same control. Not that far off in reality

Don’t misunderstand me either, he’s better than our current #5 but he’s sure as hell not someone that would be the centrepiece of a Moreno trade like the Houston fan suggests.
Dagagad Verified Member Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 No they're not, he has lots of upside relative to a SP. Biggio's worth more than you think, though. True, but I feel like when it comes to position player/ pitcher trades … a pitcher with that level of control and upside would be worth quite a bit more.

Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 Will echo from earlier - Brown or Abreu; if Astros want to go for a WS push and need an OF or C from us, that's what we shoot for. Anything else is just not worth. Maybe, MAYYYBE, Colin Barber cause lefty OF with decent power/speed is very interesting. (Gurriel or Jansen) + an arm for Brown + Barber, I'd do that. But losing Gurriel (maybe even Jansen) now might be a death sentence lol.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 True, but I feel like when it comes to position player/ pitcher trades … a pitcher with that level of control and upside would be worth quite a bit more. Bat > SP
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 Here are some more realistic trades: Biggio for Urquidy Gurriel for Urquidy Odorizzi and cash for worthless prospect Moreno for Luis Garcia or Cristian Javier Jansen for Hunter Brown and a decent second prospect
Dagagad Verified Member Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 Bat > SP Prospects yes, major leaguers no. Right? Maybe I’m wrong. Like, I’d bet quite a bit that Houston could get more on the open market for Urquidy than we could for Biggio. In saying that, I think that’s also because teams would think he’s better than his numbers. Like, you can get good rental bats for less than good rental pitching at the deadline.

Dagagad Verified Member Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 I'm talking value. I'm sure it'd be Biggio + but Why? Stros stand down. Oh yea, astros would never in a million years trade controllable pitching when contending. It’s not going to happen.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 What would Jansen for McCormick look like. Nvm, figured out how to play with that site. Jansen for MCCormick and Urquidy is about equal. Not that Houston is going to trade Urquidy anyways
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 What would Jansen for McCormick look like It would look like Jansen for McCormick
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 It would look like Jansen for McCormick f***ing gross. No.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 f*** no to this trade. But thanks for stopping by.
